About The Position

Under the direction of the Site Manager and Physicians, the IR Technologist is responsible for performing high-quality, diagnostic angiography and interventional procedures on patients of all ages, demonstrating knowledge of anatomy and angiographic systems. The technologist demonstrates clinical competency in all aspects of interventional radiology including; sterile technique, angiographic supplies and medications/lab test values. The work situations for this position are varied and require some independent judgment as well as ingenuity and initiative in order to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an Accredited Radiologic Technology program is required.
  • ARRT registry required or registry-eligible in Interventional Radiology.
  • Washington State Licensure required.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Maintains high standards regarding the accurate recording of patient information.
  • Utilizes accurate written and oral communications with patients, physicians, co-workers and supervisors.
  • Cooperates and maintains good rapport with co-workers to ensure proper patient care and efficient workflow.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective customer service skills, using AIDET/4 As.
  • Ability to work effectively in teamwork environment and have respectful behavior while working as a team with co-workers.
  • Communicate professionally with other medical facilities, patients, and customers.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and carry out instructions effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care in accordance with the mission statement of TRA.
  • Obtains a thorough patient history as it relates to the exam to be completed.
  • Prepares radiographic/fluoroscopy equipment, positions patients correctly and accurately captures the diagnostic image needed for procedure to be completed.
  • Completes examinations in a timely manner.
  • Adheres to the exam protocols and policies, procedures as established by the department.
  • Utilizes proper radiation safety devices such as lead aprons and thyroid collars to avoid unnecessary radiation exposure.
  • Shields patient from unnecessary radiation exposure.
  • Manipulates and uses functions of carm to reduce dose to patient and staff.
  • Maintains IR supply inventory, and has working knowledge of those supplies and their appropriate application as it applies to IR procedures.
  • Ensures that supplies are stocked in IR procedure room, notifies ordering representative when stock is low.
  • Sets up for IR procedures by selecting needed supplies for case, and preparing IR equipment, and support equipment prior to procedure.
  • Practices sterile technique/maintains sterile field in setting up for IR cases, and during IR procedures, actively adheres to infection control policies.
  • Assists provider and RN with IR cases as needed by acting as scrub tech.
  • Maintains sterile technique/sterile field during procedures.
  • Actively engages with procedure, and assists with requests.
  • Has working knowledge of C-arm and specific functions needed for IR cases.
  • Appropriately prepares the patient for IR procedures, positioning, prepping procedure specific site if needed.
  • Sterilizes non-disposable instruments in accordance with company policy.
  • Actively takes a role in QA and sterilization process, and monitoring of sterilization.
  • Cleans IR room and equipment following procedures.
  • Actively ensures work area is clean and infection control policies are followed.
  • Appropriately explains procedures to patient and consents procedure when appropriate.
  • Ensures patient is educated on procedure specific after care.
  • Assists with post procedure follow up as needed.
  • Completes Modality Worksheet with accurate information for the Radiologist.
  • Utilizes exemplary customer service skills with patient and family members.
  • Performs necessary computer functions associated with patient exam, including the RIS (Radiology Information System) and McKesson PACS.
  • Keeps work area and patient exam areas neat and stocked with appropriate supplies.
  • Participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel.
  • Able to apply IV principles under the scope of practice for Radiologic Technologists.
  • Wears Radiation Badge daily.
  • Uses good body mechanics to avoid injury to oneself and the patient.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
  • Checks work e-mail daily.
