About The Position

The IR (Interventional Radiology) Technologist - Vascular assists in performing diagnostic angiographic procedures as well as complex vascular interventional surgeries in the operating room setting, such as: arteriography, venography, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty, stent placement, vascular embolization, mechanical thrombectomy, athrectomy, aortic aneurysm repair and all other endovascular procedures. Responsible for obtaining all equipment needed for a procedure, positioning and imaging patients, resolving equipment issues, and demonstrating knowledge of human anatomy, radiation safety, interventional supplies and equipment operation.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a 2 year AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) (R)
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) (VI) in Vascular-Interventional Radiology or registration obtained within two (2) years of transition into position
  • Current South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association (SCRQSA) current license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required

Responsibilities

  • Assists in performing diagnostic angiographic procedures as well as complex vascular interventional surgeries in the operating room setting.
  • Obtains all equipment needed for a procedure.
  • Positions and images patients.
  • Resolves equipment issues.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of human anatomy, radiation safety, interventional supplies and equipment operation.
  • Applies knowledge of the principles of radiation protection for the patient, self, and others; wears a radiation dosimeter and protective lead as assigned while on duty.
  • Applies knowledge of anatomy, positioning and radiographic techniques to accurately demonstrate anatomical structures on fluoroscopy.
  • Determines exposure factors to achieve optimum fluoroscopic technique with a minimum amount of radiation exposure to the patient.
  • Assists vascular surgeons in performing invasive procedures to include but not limited to: arteriography, venography, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty, stent placement, venous access, vascular embolization, mechanical thrombectomy, athrectomy, aortic aneurysm repair and all other vascular surgeries.
  • Responsible for taking on call assignments on a rotational basis for all shifts as assigned.
  • Operates all vascular interventional equipment.
  • Practices proper sterile techniques in setting up procedural trays, opening of supplies and scrubbing for vascular interventional procedures.
  • Assists the vascular surgeons in the use of guidewires, catheters and special equipment when performing invasive procedures while adhering to proper sterile technique.
  • Assists with patient transport whenever necessary.
  • Clocks in/out according to hospital policy and approves time in UKG at the end of pay period.
  • Attends staff meetings as required and completes all mandatory education requirements.
  • Serves on various committees and work teams as requested.
  • Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patient condition which results in patient harm.
  • Adheres to policies of logging in/out of any information systems and maintains confidentiality of passwords, security codes and adheres and follows HIPAA guidelines.
  • Serves and protects the hospital community by ensuring adherence to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state and local requirements, and DNV.
  • Helps evaluate any problem with equipment and have problems reported as needed for service.
  • Demonstrates good public relations and service excellence at all times.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as required in an emergency, i.e. fire, disaster.
