Regularly reviews and revises, as necessary, relevant standards and ensures services performed comply with all hospital, system, and regulatory agency standards. Coordinates provision of services with other nursing and medical functions and serves as a technical resource for departmental personnel. As an expert in the assigned area serves as a resource person to staff and physicians.Duties/Responsibilities:The role of the IR RN is to deliver a continued level of quality nursing care to patients who will utilize the services of Interventional Radiology, providing care of patients undergoing minimally invasive proceduresPre, post and intra procedural care for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency room populationsThe IR RN utilizes the nursing process as the frame of reference for practice as a professional registered nurse and provides direct nursing care to patients and familyAssists Interventional Radiologist and APP during proceduresWorks in collaboration with IR team, including IR technologists, MAs, Physicians, APPs, operational leadership, and other hospital colleagues in relation to procedures and daily workflowsThe radiology nurse will work collaboratively with respect to the implementation of orders as they are related to direct patient careGathers pertinent objective and subjective data using all available resourcesAssures, as appropriate, that a patient assessment and plan of care is in placeProvides direct patient care as specified by nursing directives or indications of treatments specified for maintaining continual patient careInforms and prepares patients for special procedure exams or other exams as specified in department policies or proceduresThe radiology nurse reports directly to the Nursing Department and to the Director of Radiology and Cardiology in respect to operational workflowsTraining, evaluation and competencies for this role are overseen by a Nurse Leader to the departmentAware of schedules so that there is a nurse provider for the needs of all procedural patientsAssists, monitors, and cares for patient emergenciesAdministers medications as determined necessary by the Interventional Radiologist, APP, assuring that proper pre-medication history has been obtained, documentedPerforms urinary catheterization when necessaryPerforms patient preparation proceduresApplies or changes dressings or special appliances requiredProficient in IV placement and VAD access (ports, central lines, PICC)Maintains the ability and familiarity in the performance of the use of all special hospital equipment such as monitors infusion pumps, pacemakers, oxygen equipment, respirators, etc.Reports the need of repairs or preventive maintenance to the director of Radiology and CardiologyAssures cleanliness of equipment by following hospital policyFloat throughout the facility, to meet the needs of the hospital if necessaryDemonstrates role of nurse as teacherOrients and Mentors new staff membersModerate sedation of a patient (airway management)Supporting anesthesia for GA casesMaintains patient safety during all types of Interventional proceduresPerforms pre and post procedure to ensure the patients care is seamlessDocument care in the EMR (EPIC experience a plus)Willingness to embrace Radiology, procedural, Emergency Room, and or ICU/CCU NurseExperience as a radiology nurse in a similar setting is preferredGraduate of accredited school of nursingRegistration/Certification:Current RN Massachusetts License.Current BLS, ACLSPALS PreferredPhysical/Environmental RequirementsThis job requires frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking and lifting over 10 lbs. There will be occasional need for climbing stairs, lifting in excess of 50 - 100 lbs and sitting. Constant use of hearing, sight and speech. Frequent use of smell and touch. Frequent keyboard and telephone use. Constant concentration and problem solving.
