About The Position

Under the direction of the Dean of Student Development, provide comprehensive counseling services in support of the College’s recruitment, retention, and completion efforts. The Counselor provides personal, career and educational counseling to students. Responsibilities include participating in orientation activities, individual and group counseling sessions, classroom presentations, workshops, assessment and placement interpretation, outreach activities, evening assignments, and liaison duties with instructional and student services departments. The assignment includes curriculum development, development and assessment of student learning outcomes, engagement in professional activities, participation in shared governance and committee work, and utilizing intervention strategies to support students experiencing academic, personal, or career-related challenges. In addition, duties include using technologies and systems related to student information systems, case management, and educational planning to support student success,

Requirements

  • Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling, OR the equivalent.
  • Possess a California Community College life credential in the subject matter area of Counseling ( NOTE : A license as a Marriage and Family Therapist ( MFT ) is an alternative qualification for this discipline, pursuant to title 5, section 53410.1.)

Responsibilities
