About The Position

The IPM Technician, under the supervision of the Grounds Manager, performs chemical and fertilizer applications on all areas of the golf course. The IPM Technician is responsible for reading, understanding and keeping current with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and product labels. This position is also responsible for compiling reports of pesticide usage for the Golf Course Superintendent. This person may also perform the duties of the Equipment Operators I and II.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience with the operation and calibration of chemical application equipment
  • Experience with mechanically pressurized and hand-operated spray equipment
  • Experience with hand-operated rotary and drop spreaders
  • Experience with hand-operated mowers, and utility tractors and other mowing equipment
  • Ability to read, understand and keep current with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and product labels.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine safety inspections on all spraying equipment.
  • Keeps accurate records of pesticides used on the golf course.
  • Maintains chemical storage and mixing areas in compliance with county, state and federal regulations and is responsible for the safety and direction of chemical handlers and/or helpers.
  • Keeps fertilizer room clean and organized.
  • Assists in maintaining golf course as an equipment operator. These duties include but are not limited to walk-mowing of greens, tees, collars, and approaches; operating riding equipment to mow the aforementioned areas and also fairways, roughs, and slopes; operation of aerifiers, dethatchers, and spreaders; and other duties as assigned.
  • Keeps accurate inventory of chemicals and fertilizers.
  • May be asked to help train a crew member in the operation of application equipment.
