iOS Engineer

InteractionPalo Alto, CA

About The Position

We are seeking an iOS Engineer to own the end-to-end development of our iOS platform experiences. This role involves pushing the boundaries of Apple's APIs to create native experiences beyond what messaging alone can offer. We value technical depth, craft, and the ability to build alongside a talented team with backgrounds from top institutions and companies. The ideal candidate is a T-shaped engineer capable of navigating the full stack, with deep expertise in at least one of the following areas: Native product surfaces, System and platform integrations, Parent app architecture, or Apple platform craft.

Requirements

  • Shipped consumer iOS apps at scale.
  • Deep understanding of Apple's APIs and their actual behavior.
  • Platform thinking: ability to build solutions that solve current needs and unlock future use cases.
  • Rigor under pressure: ability to move between product and debugging, and stabilize systems while shipping features.
  • Low ego: willingness to tackle any important problem.
  • Technical depth, obsession with craft, and ability to build alongside the team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with native product surfaces (compose interfaces, capture flows, rich previews).
  • Experience with system and platform integrations (HealthKit, Calendar, Contacts, Location, Photos, Shortcuts, App Intents).
  • Experience with parent app architecture (Settings, account, automations, notifications, push, background processing).
  • Experience with Apple platform craft (SwiftUI, performance, accessibility, signing, capabilities, App Store review strategy).

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end development of iOS platform experiences, including iMessage extensions, Shortcuts, widgets, Live Activities, lock screen, and App Intents.
  • Develop native user-facing flows that require a real screen, such as compose interfaces, capture flows, and rich previews.
  • Integrate with Apple's system and platform services, including HealthKit, Calendar, Contacts, Location, Photos, Shortcuts, and App Intents.
  • Build and maintain the parent app architecture, including settings, account management, automations, notifications, push notifications, and background processing.
  • Focus on Apple platform craft, including SwiftUI, performance optimization, accessibility, code signing, capabilities management, and App Store review strategy.
  • Move between product development and debugging, stabilizing systems while shipping features.
  • Think in primitives to build solutions that address current product needs and enable future use cases.
  • Collaborate with a high-talent, dense team.
