About The Position

The State of Wisconsin Investment Board (SWIB) manages over $178 billion in assets and is seeking an Investment Systems Engineer. SWIB operates at a high level within the asset management industry and is committed to securing the financial future of WRS beneficiaries. The Technology Team at SWIB implements, develops, and supports industry-leading systems for a diverse investment portfolio, acting as strategic partners to advance SWIB's goals. The Senior Business Systems Engineer will provide technical leadership for the business systems architecture supporting SWIB’s front- and middle-office investment functions. This role involves designing and implementing solutions, improving processes, and ensuring investment systems are effective, scalable, and supportable. The engineer will leverage investment industry expertise to analyze business needs, develop solutions, create testing strategies, and guide implementation, partnering with various stakeholders to translate business needs into technology solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required with a preference focus within Information Systems, Computer Science or Finance.
  • 5 plus years of investment management experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of one or more ABOR/IBOR applications such as SimCorp Dimension (preferred), Eagle STAR/PACE, Charles River, Portia, Golden Source, Advent Geneva, BlackRock Aladdin, or equivalents with a focus on the use of such systems from a public and/or private markets perspective.
  • Substantial knowledge of investment industry operational and functional capabilities.
  • Substantial knowledge of investment industry strategies, processes, and technologies.
  • Ability to objectively influence successful outcomes and work cross-functionally.
  • Experience working with Agile methodology.
  • Ability to document and communicate technical knowledge effectively.
  • Ability to envision solutions, communicate those solutions and help form tangible outputs from those conceptual solutions.
  • Communicating complex technology subjects in layman’s terms.
  • Detailed familiarity with common investment practices and securities.
  • Ability to design technology solutions to solve business problems.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technology specifications and design systems to meet the needs of the business.
  • Proven ability to develop solutions utilizing Python, R, SQL, or others.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and be able to maintain that authorization throughout employment without requiring SWIB sponsorship.

  • SimCorp Dimension experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Technology Owners, Business Owners, and Operations to research and implement new solutions and identify the support needs of those solutions.
  • Analyze Investment Management, Operations, and Technology teams’ needs to ensure business needs are continuously met through software design, development, or deployment.
  • Serve as the architect/designer for investment management applications and systems, including creating test plans, scenarios, and procedures for new software.
  • Identify gaps and risks in SWIB’s systems architecture, design, and projects, and make recommendations to management.
  • Lead, facilitate, and coordinate the software or solution architecture and design of solutions.
  • Implement software testing, evaluate results, document defects, and oversee future maintenance and upgrades.
  • Evolve knowledge of investment and asset management business practices.
  • Understand general and investment industry-specific technology trends and forecast future technology shifts.
  • Research new investment management technologies to drive SWIB’s business capabilities forward and maintain awareness of industry trends, products, vendors, and services.
