About The Position

Martel Wealth Advisors, LLC is an independent, boutique investment management firm based in the Pacific Northwest since 1982. Today, we advise high net worth families and employer-sponsored retirement plans across 10+ states with over $1 billion in assets under management. The firm, supported by a dedicated team of specialists, offers our clients a bespoke array of investment and retirement planning opportunities. Our headquarters is located on the waterfront of the Columbia River in Vancouver, WA. The Investment Operations Associate is a key member of the Portfolio Services team, responsible for the accurate execution of daily investment operations across a $1B+ AUM platform. Reporting to the Director of Portfolio Services, this role is equal parts execution and process-building: you will keep the machine running today while helping us build the systems and workflows that scale it for tomorrow. This is not a traditional investment analyst role. Our investment philosophy is intentionally simple — a disciplined, limited set of institutional-quality funds structured around clear client models. We are not looking for someone who wants to be active in securities research or individual stock selection. We are looking for someone who takes deep ownership of operational excellence: someone who is energized by getting systems right, documentation tight, and processes scalable. Candidates with investment operations experience would be strong fits, as would candidates with strong backgrounds in financial operations, accounting, or similar roles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, mathematics, or a similarly quantitative field
  • 5-15 years of experience in investment operations, financial operations, accounting, or a related field — a background in financial operations or accounting is welcomed alongside a traditional investments background
  • Detail-oriented and process-minded, with a track record of building or improving operational workflows
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities with care and accuracy
  • Experience with Schwab Advisor Center, Orion, and Microsoft Office Suite preferred
  • High degree of confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism

Nice To Haves

  • Process and systems thinking — experience documenting workflows, identifying inefficiencies, and building scalable operational infrastructure
  • Investment operations and portfolio administration — trade execution, rebalancing, reconciliation, and compliance with model allocations in an RIA environment
  • Financial reporting and data integrity — maintaining accurate, reliable data across portfolio management and client reporting platforms
  • RIA platform proficiency — hands-on experience with Schwab Advisor Center, Orion, or comparable custodial and portfolio management systems
  • Cross-functional coordination — comfortable working across advisory, client service, and operations teams in a client-first environment

Responsibilities

  • Execute and oversee daily trading and rebalancing across client accounts with precision and efficiency
  • Ensure asset allocation and tactical allocations are accurately implemented and periodically reviewed
  • Track, monitor, and reconcile high-dollar transactions and cash flows
  • Maintain fund performance tracking and client reporting infrastructure
  • Generate portfolio reviews and support the advisory team with client-facing materials
  • Identify opportunities to improve, document, and scale investment operations workflows and processes
  • Coordinate with advisors and client service staff to manage multi-client priorities with competing timelines

Benefits

  • 100% paid employee medical (includes vision) premiums
  • 401(k) plan with employer contribution after a year
  • PTO that increases with tenure in addition to sick time
  • Additional paid holidays
  • Early office closure every Friday
  • Support for pursuit of CFP and CFA programs
