About The Position

Bridgewater is seeking talented individuals for its Investment Associate roles. These associates are at the forefront of how Bridgewater learns and invests, acting as investors, engineers, and inventors who build and evolve the systems powering one of the world's largest hedge funds. The role is ideal for individuals with backgrounds in quantitative fields such as computer science, machine learning, mathematics, statistics, physics, or engineering, who have several years of experience building real systems and wish to apply this expertise to understanding economies and markets, and translating that understanding into systematic investment decisions.

Requirements

  • A strong foundation in a quantitative or technical discipline: computer science, machine learning, mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering, or a related field.
  • A few years of professional experience building systems, models, or quantitative tools in technology, finance, research, or another demanding environment.
  • A problem-solving orientation: analytically rigorous and detail-oriented, but able to flexibly learn new methods to get from concept to execution.
  • Genuine intellectual passion for understanding how economies and markets work, including their causal mechanics.
  • Fluency in at least one programming language commonly used in quantitative research or systems development.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States for a minimum of 3 years from the candidate’s start date.
  • If visa sponsorship is required, must demonstrate continuous, or eligibility to renew, work authorization in the United States for at least three years after the date of hire, without being subject to selection through a lottery process.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to think in whole systems, seeing the full architecture from insight to investment decision and owning it end-to-end.
  • Proactive experimentation with new technologies and their application to hard problems.
  • Ambition, self-direction, and resilience in the face of ambiguity.
  • Ability to abstract up from mechanics to see the deeper structure of a problem and apply that understanding to new situations.
  • Fierce drive to understand how the world works, uncovering new logical relationships, testing new data sources, and expanding understanding.
  • Ability to think independently and challenge existing ideas.
  • Ability to draw insights across disciplines (economics, finance, computer science, mathematics, statistics, political science, history, natural science, etc.).
  • Collaborative, gritty, and determined to grow rapidly, pushing oneself and others to improve without ego or politics.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, own, and evolve the systems behind Bridgewater's investment edge, including developing and probing sophisticated investment logic, identifying weaknesses, and devising new analytical approaches.
  • Invent new ways of investing by connecting emerging technologies to investment questions and devising practical solutions that change research, system building, and learning processes.
  • Oversee portfolios and gain deep knowledge of global markets, forming independent market views and using the tension between human judgment and system output to drive continuous improvement.
  • Research the drivers of economies and markets, tackling complex analytical problems in macroeconomics that require rigor, creative use of quantitative methods, and the ability to move from abstract questions to concrete, testable answers.

Benefits

  • Competitive suite of benefits
