About The Position

This position is responsible for conducting education, compliance, and investigative activities involving vehicle-related industries and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations. The position conducts criminal background investigations for new vehicle dealer license applicants; reviews, approves, and maintains vehicle dealer and related business licenses and permits; and maintains accurate records of vehicle business licenses issued by WYDOT. The position investigates criminal and civil violations, non-compliance, and allegations of fraud involving vehicle-related businesses and assists law enforcement and county officials with issues involving vehicle identification numbers (VINs), titles, and registrations. The position is also responsible for overseeing lost or stolen vehicle dealer and manufacturer license plates and conducting inspections of ignition interlock service centers to ensure compliance with requirements governing the installation and calibration of ignition interlock devices. The Investigator gathers and evaluates information, conducts interviews and inspections, reviews records and documentation, prepares investigative reports, and coordinates with internal and external agencies as necessary. The position provides education and guidance to regulated businesses regarding applicable requirements and works to promote compliance while identifying and addressing violations through appropriate investigative and enforcement processes. Cheyenne is a steadily growing community along the Front Range, but still true to the history of the Old West. The city offers nearby access to mountain biking, skiing, hiking, fishing, hunting, and other outdoor activities. Wyoming is one of only nine states with no state income tax.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (typically in Criminal Justice)
  • 0-3 years of progressive work experience in Investigation
  • High skill levels in oral and written communication, including public speaking, negotiations, presentations, and audit scenarios.
  • Knowledge of criminal investigation techniques.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State Statutes, rules and regulations.
  • Skill in building rapport with a wide variety of people.

Nice To Haves

  • 4-6 years of progressive work experience in Investigation (as an alternative to Bachelor's Degree)
