About The Position

The Investigator, under direction, conducts intensive investigations, provides investigative assistance to law enforcement personnel, makes criminal arrests, testifies in court, issues subpoenas, provides agency security, and carries a firearm.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Possession and maintain of the Ohio Peace Officer’s Training Academy (OPOTA) Certification.
  • 10 years of total experience including five years in law enforcement and five years criminal investigatory experience or equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid Stat of Ohio motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Ability to comfortably appear and testify about matters before Ohio courts.
  • Critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Fairness, strong work ethic, and high integrity.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, primarily Word and Outlook.
  • Detail oriented, flexible and quick thinking, and ability to quickly learn new tasks.
  • Good time management, with an ability to prioritize job duties to ensure accurate and timely completion of responsibilities.
  • Ability to conduct business in accordance within State and Federal statutes and guidelines.
  • Ability to perform all other duties assigned, delegated, or required of the Investigator, as well as those prescribed by law.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts approved investigations (e.g. interviews witnesses and suspects; collects and analyzes information; collects and secures evidence; performs research and file searches; provides surveillance, uses cover identity, etc.); receives, screens and records information from informants, citizens, law enforcement personnel, and others; communicates with the public and governmental or law enforcement agencies; carries a firearm; makes criminal arrests; testifies in court.
  • Provides investigative assistance to law enforcement personnel.
  • Reviews requests for subpoenas for records by all agencies within Hamilton County; issues subpoenas on legitimate requests and maintains records tracking subpoenas; transports out-of-town witnesses to and from the Courtroom; assists with the retrieval and storage of adjudicated cases at the various Hamilton County storage facilities; analyzes and interprets data; provides office security; may assist with installation of alarm systems; assists with management of the Property Room in the absence of the Property Room Clerk.
  • Maintains and operates a office computer, utilizing database oriented inquiry system to produce word processing documents and reports; develops, maintains and completes detailed records and reports (e.g. investigatory, arrest, extradition, attachments, etc.); processes records, evidence and related information for use in case preparation; takes photographs.
  • Attends training sessions, workshops and/or conferences; qualifies in use of firearms in accordance with policy.
  • Liaison with Law Enforcement Agencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
