About The Position

The Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO) is seeking an Investigator for the Professional Conduct and Regulatory Affairs (PCRA) department. This role involves responding to public inquiries about dental concerns, investigating the conduct of dentists, supporting the College's Inquiries, Complaints and Reports (ICR) Committee and Discipline Committee, and enforcing committee decisions. The Investigator will collect information, interview witnesses, attend dental offices, arrange expert opinions, and compile investigation records. This position requires strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills, with the ability to work impartially and manage investigations within a demanding, fast-paced environment. The role reports to the Team Lead/Senior Dental Consultant, Investigations and is a contract position expected to last 12+ months. Occasional onsite work in the Toronto office is required, and candidates must be located in Ontario or willing to relocate.

Requirements

  • Completion of a university degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience and training with various investigative techniques and superior investigation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize and present information in an objective and neutral manner.
  • Proven ability to manage difficult situations and demonstrate tact, discretion, and sensitivity.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills and ability to professionally engage a variety of stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Being a Regulated Health Professional, LLB or equivalent is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA), related legislation, and administrative tribunal procedures is an asset.
  • Experience with trauma-informed approaches is an asset.
  • Knowledge of dental practice operations is an asset.
  • Excellent French language proficiency is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate complaints and reports, which includes responding to inquiries, interviewing witnesses, requesting records and information, analyzing information, obtaining expert opinions, and preparing matters for the Registrar and/or the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee.
  • Manage case files using the College’s electronic case management system to ensure integrity, accuracy, and adherence to legislated requirements and timelines.
  • Review records of investigation (ROIs) and disclosure of investigation materials to parties.
  • Represent the College with external stakeholders, including at the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board, as required.
  • Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Travel within Ontario may be required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
