About The Position

The Department of Law Enforcement (DLE) is seeking permanent full-time Investigators for the Intelligence Enforcement Unit of the Office of Homeland Security (OHS). These positions are responsible for conducting investigations and enforcement actions related to homeland security and criminal intelligence information. The unit focuses on homeland security threats and crimes statewide. These positions are vested with statewide police powers and authorized to carry firearms. Major duties include conducting in-depth and/or undercover investigations of criminal activities such as terrorism, critical infrastructure threats, illegal gaming, and violent crimes; coordinating with Federal, State, and County agencies; conducting seizure and forfeiture cases; and participating in the Federal asset-sharing program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Three and one-half (3-1/2) years of progressively responsible professional investigative experience.
  • Demonstrated initiative, ingenuity, resourcefulness, and judgment required to collect, assemble, and develop facts and other pertinent data.
  • Ability to think logically and objectively, to analyze and evaluate facts, evidence and related information, and arrive at sound conclusions.
  • Skill in written and oral reports and presentation of investigative findings in a clear and concise manner.
  • Tact, discretion, and capacity for obtaining the cooperation and confidence of others.
  • At least one (1) year of Specialized Experience must have been comparable in scope, complexity and responsibility to work experience characteristic of the Investigator IV class of work in State service.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the intelligence cycle/process.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of intelligence-led policing principles and practices related to homeland security threats and criminal activities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of criminal and intelligence investigations management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the jurisdictions and functions of various governmental agencies and departments.
  • Currently, or previously been qualified by a certified law enforcement firearms instructor to carry a department or agency-issued handgun to perform their duties.
  • Of the three and one-half (3-1/2) years of Specialized Experience required for the class Investigator V, applicants must possess at least ONE AND ONE-HALF (1-1/2) years of professional experience working in various governmental agencies and departments or joint task force environments in the furtherance of federal and state law enforcement operations.
  • Must meet all State and Federal requirements applicable to the carrying, possession and use of firearms and ammunition.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
  • Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory aptitude rather than actual supervisory experience may be accepted if there is strong affirmative evidence of the necessary supervisory abilities and/or potential.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, direct, and coordinate the activities of an investigative agency concerned with civil, administrative, and/or criminal investigations.
  • Conduct in-depth and/or undercover investigations of criminal activities such as terrorism, critical infrastructure threats, illegal gaming entablements, and violent crimes.
  • Coordinate and cooperate with Federal, State, and County agencies in conducting investigations.
  • Conduct seizure and forfeiture cases on currency, vehicles, and property.
  • Participate in and coordinate the Federal asset-sharing program with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
  • Provide intelligence support to departmental operations focusing on homeland security threats and crimes statewide.
  • Perform investigations and enforcement actions related to the collection of homeland security and criminal intelligence information.
