Investigator, Tobacco Enforcement Section
About The Position
Conducts investigations of tobacco product manufacturers, licensed tobacco product distributors, and tobacco product retailers to ensure compliance with Virginia tobacco laws. Assists in both criminal and regulatory investigations. Works with local, state, and federal law enforcement and government agencies. Prepares evidence for prosecution and testifies to such findings in state and federal courts as needed. Assists with special projects as needed. This position will either be based in the Richmond, Virginia OAG Office, or home-office based with access to the Richmond, Virginia office location, covering the “Central Virginia” area within the outer county lines from Pittsylvania County north to Amherst County, northeast to Albemarle County, southeast to Hanover County, and southwest to Brunswick County. Daily interstate travel will be required, including infrequent overnight trips.
Requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in time management.
- Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Ability to organize and analyze large quantities of information.
- Keen attention to detail.
- A high degree of initiative.
- Demonstrated computer proficiency with word processing and database management systems (Microsoft products preferred).
Nice To Haves
- Major course work in criminal justice or prior investigative experience is preferred.
- An equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the required qualifications may be substituted for educational criteria.
