About The Position

First Alert 4 is looking for an Investigative Producer to lead their award-winning I-Team. This role requires a strategist and storyteller who can transform complex data into a digital-first powerhouse, combining deep-dive reporting with a modern, multi-platform mindset. The ideal candidate is a relentless truth-seeker who believes investigative journalism impacts audiences across all platforms.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience producing high-impact investigations in a fast-paced newsroom.
• Comfort with spreadsheets, public datasets, and FOIA requests.
• Proven track record of shaping complex narratives into clear, accountability-driven reporting.
• Ability to build stories specifically for streaming and social audiences.
• Self-starter with persistence and curiosity.
• Ability to lead reporters, photographers, and digital teams toward a shared vision.
• Discretion and integrity in handling sensitive information and sources.
• Focus on driving community engagement.
• Bachelor's degree majoring in Journalism or Communications.

Responsibilities

• Own the daily direction and long-term organization of the investigative unit, managing stories from initial tip to multi-platform rollout.
• Lead a digital-first strategy that embraces non-traditional storytelling for streaming, social, and web platforms.
• Mine data, identify hidden patterns, and expose trends to drive meaningful change in the St. Louis region.
• Create systems for tracking public records, managing data, and following up on leads.
• Collaborate with newsroom leadership and multimedia teams to ensure high editorial and legal standards.
• Integrate investigative reporting into the solutions-oriented show, First Alert Forward.
• Oversee the investigative tip line, triaging leads, documenting sources, and ensuring responsiveness to the community.
• Organize and lead the station’s award entries for journalism competitions like Emmy and Murrow.
