About The Position

The City of Greensboro Police Department is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical professional to serve as an Investigative Analyst. This position combines technology, research, data analysis, and investigative support to help identify patterns, develop leads, and provide information that supports effective law enforcement. The Greensboro Police Department uses data, technology, and intelligence to support informed decision-making and strengthen investigative and crime prevention efforts. Investigative Analysts work alongside law enforcement professionals to examine information from multiple sources, identify trends, and provide analytical support that helps the department respond strategically to crime and community safety concerns. As an Investigative Analyst, you will provide analytical and research support to the Greensboro Police Department's investigative operations. The position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, critical thinking, and the ability to work with both manual and automated sources of crime information. The job is NON-EXEMPT under FLSA. The successful candidate must be comfortable working with technology, analyzing information from multiple sources, and communicating findings clearly. Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, curiosity, and the ability to manage sensitive information are essential to success in this role.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree with 1+ years' experience in Crime Analysis, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Social Network Analysis, Criminal Justice, Analytics or Statistics
  • High School Diploma with 6+ years' experience in Crime Analysis, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Social Network Analysis, Criminal Justice, Analytics or Statistics
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Microsoft Windows Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Valid North Carolina driver's license
  • Obtain Department of Criminal Information (DCI) certification within six weeks of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced use of Excel (formulas, arrays, data analysis)
  • Previous employment with a Law Enforcement Agency
  • Prior/Current Certification with the State Division of Criminal Information
  • 5-7+ years' experience in Crime Analysis, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Social Network Analysis, Criminal Justice, Analytics or Statistics

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining technological operational capability through daily use of the department's software applications and information systems.
  • Reviewing recently submitted criminal investigative reports to identify relevant information and potential investigative leads.
  • Conducting research related to potential suspects, stolen property, firearms, and other investigative information.
  • Reviewing National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) results and crime-gun data to support investigative efforts.
  • Supporting the Crime Analysis Warehouse through data review, maintenance, and analytical activities.
  • Conducting statistical and analytical studies related to crime patterns, trends, and activity.
  • Examining both manual and automated crime information to identify relationships, trends, and potential areas for further investigation.
  • Providing accurate and timely analytical information to support detectives and other department personnel.
