Investigational Drug Services Pharmacist - Inpatient
About The Position
The Pharmacist ensures the overall integrity, safety, rationality, and effectiveness of the drug use control process for all patients in the assigned geographic or specialty area, including the following patient groups: Neonates, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, and Geriatrics. The role involves monitoring, screening, and verifying all drug-related orders for dosage, route, form, and schedule, ensuring expedited preparation and dispensing. Responsibilities include resolving drug therapy problems, correcting problematic orders, assigning tasks to pharmacy technicians, counseling patients on medication use, and addressing equipment and operational issues. The position serves all age-specific groups and requires availability for evenings, nights, and weekends.
Requirements
- Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy required or obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
- Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited academic program.
- Must be available to work evenings, nights and weekends.
Nice To Haves
- Minimum of one (1) year of pharmacy practice experience in a similar setting.
- Previous experience with state of the art drug distribution and clinical service methods and drug information sources and retrieval and communication methods.
- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an accredited academic program.
Responsibilities
- Monitoring, screening, and verification of all drug-related orders for assurance of proper dosage, route, dosage form, and administration schedule.
- Ensuring expedited preparation and dispensing of all dosage forms by pharmacy personnel.
- Resolve drug therapy problems.
- Clarify and correct problematic drug orders.
- Designate pharmacy technicians to perform special assignments.
- Counsel patients regarding the safe and proper use of their medications.
- Resolve equipment and operational problems.
