About The Position

The Inventory Specialist is responsible for executing, monitoring, and training inventory best practices and standard operating procedures for the entire store, including both front end and pharmacy. This role supports pharmacy inventory management activities, including receiving, counting, ordering, and facilitating returns. The Inventory Specialist champions On-Shelf Availability and is responsible for receiving, counting, pricing, returns, and all in-store inventory processes. They validate and ensure the accuracy of planograms and are responsible for reviewing and coordinating the proper use of reports and system applications that impact the accuracy of front end and pharmacy on-hand balances and pricing. Additionally, the Inventory Specialist executes and maintains front end and pharmacy asset protection techniques and files claims for warehouse and vendor discrepancies. In designated stores, this role may open and close the store in the absence of store management, including system start-ups, cash handling, and ensuring the store is ready for business. The role also involves engaging customers, resolving customer issues when serving as leader on duty, and modeling customer service best practices.

Requirements

  • Six months of prior work experience with Walgreens (internal candidates) or one year of prior retail work experience (external candidates).
  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to multi-task and manage execution.
  • Experience in identifying operational issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid pharmacy license/certification as required by the state.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a shift lead, pharmacy technician, designated hitter, or customer service associate.
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens, with an evaluation on file.

Responsibilities

  • Execute, monitor, and train inventory best practices and standard operating procedures for the entire store (front end and pharmacy).
  • Support pharmacy inventory management activities (receiving, counting, ordering, returns).
  • Champion On-Shelf Availability and manage all in-store inventory processes.
  • Validate and ensure accuracy of planograms.
  • Review and coordinate the proper use of reports and system applications impacting inventory accuracy.
  • Execute and maintain front-end and pharmacy asset protection techniques.
  • File claims for warehouse and vendor discrepancies (overages, shortages, order errors, damaged goods).
  • Open and close the store in the absence of management (in designated stores), including system start-ups, cash handling, and preparing the store for business.
  • Engage customers by greeting them and offering assistance.
  • Resolve customer issues and answer questions when serving as leader on duty (in designated stores).
  • Model and share customer service best practices.
  • Execute and coach team members on warehouse and vendor inventory management processes.
  • Scan in all deliveries while the vendor is present, focusing on One Box receiving.
  • Take appropriate action for received products, undelivered scheduled receipts, and opening tickets for inaccurate orders.
  • Verify and post all pharmacy shipments for products physically received.
  • Complete postings for pharmacy warehouse orders, ABC prescription and OTC orders, secondary vendor orders, flu and dropship orders, performing tote audits and reporting discrepancies.
  • Complete On-Shelf Availability (OSA) end-to-end process for warehouse and DSD, including disposals, call-ins, vendor returns, and scan outs.
  • Complete pharmacy inventory activities including recalls, vendor returns, non-controlled, and damaged salvage returns.
  • Facilitate excess inventory returns or interstore pharmacy transfers.
  • Verify posting of all pharmacy/prescription claims.
  • Complete execution of all pricing activities (price changes, markdowns, markdowns deletes).
  • Perform basic department pricing, including daily price changes, accurate pricing with correct signage, and regulatory pricing tasks.
  • Support front-end and pharmacy ordering by ordering expense items.
  • Monitor pharmacy manual orders to identify excess orders.
  • Maintain consigned inventory and orders as required.
  • Ensure designated pull & quarantine item on-hands are updated and placed in the designated holding area.
  • Maintain accurate inventory counts and on-hand quantities for basic departments, stockroom, and overstock locations.
  • Maintain accurate inventory counts and on-hand quantities in pharmacy and complete pharmacy smart counts.
  • Ensure store maintains inventory compliance with state and local laws regarding regulated products.
  • Assist in the maintenance of inventory records, including receiving and posting of all products.
  • Organize files and retain all invoices/receipts/return authorizations necessary for inventory activities.
  • Prepare for and support physical inventory day activities.
  • Support keeping all counters and shelves clean and well merchandised.
  • Be knowledgeable of all store systems and equipment.
  • Assist and coach store team on all package delivery activities.
  • Support execution of the Pickup Program.
  • Register all related sales on assigned POS system, including scanning errors, price verifications, items not on file, price modifications, and voids (in designated stores as leader on duty).
  • Complete product returns, order voids, customer refunds, cash drops to safe, and provide change as requested for POS.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures; maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
  • Complete any additional activities and other tasks as assigned.
  • Attend company-based trainings and complete e-learning modules.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid pharmacy license/certification as required by the state.
  • Serve as a liaison between management and non-management team members by coaching and developing capabilities with inventory systems.
  • Communicate assigned tasks to team members and report disciplinary issues and customer complaints to management (when serving as leader on duty).
