About The Position

The Inventory Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of inventory on hand at their assigned location. This role functions as the location’s primary inventory expert, reviewing all movement of inventory in/out of the location to assure the accuracy of inventory levels. The specialist will analyze store-level shrink data to identify and track problem areas and trends, and improve overall loss prevention awareness. They will also identify procedural deficiencies, advise the Store Manager on policy or procedure issues, and conduct regular inventory checks. Researching and documenting reasons for inventory variances, maintaining out-of-stock lists, and processing inventory adjustments are key duties. The role also involves receiving direct shipments, reviewing product condition, and completing ongoing cycle counts and annual physical inventories. Consistent attendance and willingness to perform other duties as required are essential.

Requirements

  • Advanced understanding of retail operations with 2+ years of retail experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Farm & Home products and merchandise across all categories
  • Knowledge of inventory management and point of sale (POS) systems preferred.
  • Ability to learn how to use the company’s ERP system (as needed)
  • Knowledge of applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Exceptional communication and people skills
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with groups of individuals as well as independently.
  • Contribute to a positive working environment.
  • Ability to operate computers and other commonly used retail equipment.
  • Ability to stand and work on feet for extended periods of time.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Function as the location’s primary inventory expert to review all movement of inventory in/out of the location and assure the accuracy of inventory levels.
  • Analyze store level shrink data to identify and track problem areas and trends and improve overall loss prevention awareness throughout the location.
  • Identify procedural deficiencies and advise the Store Manager on policy or procedure issues, violations, and opportunities.
  • Obtain inventory lists on a regular basis and physically check accuracy of counts on identified items throughout all departments.
  • Research and document reasons for any inventory variances, track and report all major discrepancies to location management and the Purchasing organization.
  • Obtain negative count lists and reconcile discrepancies as needed to reflect actual product availability on all counts.
  • Maintain and review out of stocks to identify opportunities to improve in-stock position by working with location management and the Purchasing organization.
  • Receive all direct shipments to the location assuring accurate processing of all receipts into the location.
  • Review of product condition for issues (damage, expiration dates, discrepancies) on items brought into the location.
  • Process all inventory adjustments to the location inventory including buybacks, count corrections, expired product, etc.
  • Verify, confirm, and post location to location transfers.
  • Complete on-going cycle counts and participates as key contributor with annual physical inventory.
  • Consistent attendance for regularly scheduled work shifts is required.
  • Other duties and responsibilities that may be required to meet the needs of the business.
