About The Position

The Inventory Specialist is responsible for executing, monitoring, and training inventory best practices and standard operating procedures for the entire store, including both front end and pharmacy. This role supports pharmacy inventory management activities, including receiving, counting, ordering, and facilitating returns. The specialist champions On-Shelf Availability and is responsible for receiving, counting, pricing, returns, and all in-store inventory processes. They also validate and ensure the accuracy of planograms. Additionally, the Inventory Specialist is responsible for reviewing and coordinating the proper use of reports and system applications that impact the accuracy of front end and pharmacy on-hand balances and pricing. They also execute and maintain front end and pharmacy asset protection techniques and file claims for warehouse and vendor discrepancies. In designated stores, this role may involve opening and closing the store in the absence of management, including system start-ups, cash handling, and ensuring the store is ready for business.

Requirements

  • Six months of prior work experience with Walgreens (internal candidates) or one year of prior retail work experience (external candidates).
  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
  • Must have a willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to multi-task and manage execution.
  • Experience in identifying operational issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid pharmacy license/certification as required by the state.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a shift lead, pharmacy technician, designated hitter, or customer service associate.
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens, with an evaluation on file.

Responsibilities

  • Execute, monitor, and train inventory best practices and standard operating procedures for the entire store, including front end and pharmacy.
  • Support pharmacy inventory management activities: receiving, counting, ordering, and facilitating returns.
  • Champion On-Shelf Availability and manage receiving, counting, pricing, returns, and all in-store inventory processes.
  • Validate and ensure accuracy of planograms.
  • Review and coordinate the proper use of reports and system applications impacting on-hand balances and pricing.
  • Execute and maintain front end and pharmacy asset protection techniques.
  • File claims for warehouse and vendor overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods.
  • In designated stores, open and close the store in the absence of management, including system start-ups, cash handling, and ensuring store readiness.
  • Engage customers by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • In designated stores, when serving as leader on duty, resolve customer issues and answer questions.
  • Model and share customer service best practices.
  • Execute and coach team members on warehouse and vendor inventory management processes.
  • Scan in all deliveries while the vendor is still in the store.
  • Focus on One Box receiving.
  • Take appropriate action for received products, contact vendors for undelivered receipts, and open tickets for inaccurate orders.
  • Under pharmacist-in-charge supervision, verify all pharmacy shipments are posted.
  • Complete or verify postings of all pharmacy warehouse orders, ABC prescription and OTC orders, secondary vendor orders, flu and dropship orders, performing tote audits and reporting discrepancies.
  • Complete On-Shelf Availability (OSA) end-to-end process for planogrammed departments.
  • Execute disposals, call-ins, and vendor returns before expiration.
  • Complete scan outs/scan outs returns on all subscribed departments.
  • Under pharmacist-in-charge supervision, complete pharmacy inventory activities including recalls, vendor returns, and salvage returns.
  • Facilitate excess inventory returns or interstore pharmacy transfers.
  • Verify posting of all pharmacy/prescription claims.
  • Complete execution of all pricing activities including price changes, markdowns, and markdown deletes.
  • Responsible for basic department pricing, including daily price changes, accurate pricing with correct signage, and timely completion of regulatory pricing tasks.
  • Support front end and pharmacy ordering by ordering expense items.
  • Monitor pharmacy manual orders to identify excess orders.
  • Maintain consigned inventory and order as required.
  • Ensure all designated pull & quarantine item on-hands are updated and placed in the designated holding area.
  • Maintain accurate inventory counts and on-hand quantities for basic departments, stockroom, and overstock locations.
  • Under pharmacist-in-charge supervision, maintain accurate inventory counts and on-hand quantities in pharmacy and complete pharmacy smart counts.
  • Ensure store maintains inventory compliance with state and local laws regarding regulated products.
  • Assist in the maintenance of inventory records, including receiving and posting of all products.
  • Organize files and retain all invoices/receipts/return authorizations necessary for all inventory activities.
  • Help prepare for physical inventory and support physical inventory day activities.
  • Support keeping all counters and shelves clean and well merchandised.
  • Be knowledgeable of all store systems and equipment.
  • Assist and coach store team on all package delivery activities.
  • Support execution of Pickup Program.
  • In designated stores, when serving as leader on duty, register all related sales on assigned point-of-sale system (POS).
  • Complete product returns, order voids, customer refunds, cash drops to safe, and provide change.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures; maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
  • Complete any additional activities and other tasks as assigned.
  • Attend company-based trainings for continuous development and complete all e-learning modules.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid pharmacy license/certification as required by the state.
  • Serve as a liaison between management and non-management team members by coaching and developing other capabilities with inventory systems.
  • When serving as the leader on duty, communicate assigned tasks to team members and report disciplinary issues and customer complaints to management.
