About The Position

Steigerwaldt Land Services, Inc. is seeking a full-time Inventory Forester to join their Inventory and Geospatial Solutions department. This role will support forest inventories nationwide and contribute to local inventory efforts and natural resource management projects. The position is considered entry-level, though prior professional experience is beneficial. It requires travel and work in remote locations, with a preference for candidates near the Tomahawk office, though location flexibility may be possible. An interest in emerging markets and forest carbon services is preferred. The role involves a hybrid work model, with approximately 95% field work and 5% office work, requiring occasional travel to the office for fieldwork coordination and access to company resources.

Responsibilities

  • Inventory data collection with necessary level of speed and precision dependent upon project requirements
  • Detailed tree data recording of field observations (using a tablet and internal software)
  • Make calls on tree diameters, heights, species, and product sections within plots
  • Utilize sub-meter GPS for applications including plot location collection, monumentation, and accessing boundaries
  • Coordinate with property managers to understand any concerns, hazards, and access details
  • Collaborate with other inventory foresters to maximize efficiency and operate safely
  • Periodic travel on project may exceed ±50 percent (in and out of state)
  • Other duties as assigned
