This role is part of Blue Origin corporate functions, providing centralized support across Blue Origin business unit teams, functions, and locations. Blue Origin is seeking an Inventory Cost Accountant to lead the inventory accounting function across all of Blue Origin’s programs. The role includes day-to-day inventory accounting activities, month-end close support, and providing critical financial visibility into product costs, inventory, and work-in-process enabling leadership to make informed decisions with speed and confidence. The ideal candidate brings deep cost accounting expertise in a complex manufacturing or aerospace environment and has passion for Blue Origin's mission to enable a future where millions of people live and work in space for the benefit of Earth. This individual will partner closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, Program Management, and FP&A to embed cost discipline and financial transparency across the enterprise.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in cost accounting, inventory accounting, or manufacturing accounting.
• Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP as it pertains to inventory and manufacturing costs in a production environment.
• Ability to investigate accounting issues and understand the underlying operational transactions that drive financial results.
• Experience with BOMs, production orders, labor standards, and overhead absorption.
• Strong understanding of financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Direct experience in the aerospace or defense industry, particularly in rocket propulsion, launch vehicle, or satellite manufacturing environments.
• Experience with Microsoft D365
• Proficiency with data analysis and scripting languages including Python and/or SQL.

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day inventory and manufacturing cost accounting activities, including raw materials, work-in-progress, finished goods, and inventory allocations.
• Perform monthly inventory reconciliations between the ERP subledger and the general ledger and investigate any discrepancies.
• Analyze the accounting treatment and financial impact of manufacturing transactions, including material consumption, labor, outplant processing, shipping, overhead, and other production costs.
• Analyze variances between planned rates and actual rates for allocated production costs.
• Support the calculation and analysis of inventory reserves, including excess and obsolete (E&O) inventory.
• Assist with physical inventory cycle counts.
• Identify and drive opportunities to improve ERP processes, inventory controls, costing methodologies, and financial reporting.
• Support product cost reporting and analysis, enabling clear visibility into unit economics and cost-per-unit trends for all Blue Origin products.
