This position is responsible for compiling and maintaining records of quantity, type, and value of material, equipment, merchandise, or supplies stocked in an establishment. The role involves reporting any accidents, injuries, malfunctions on equipment, and safety issues and/or unsafe practices immediately to a Supervisor. The specialist will count material, equipment, merchandise, or supplies in stock and post totals to inventory records, comparing inventories to office records or computing figures from records such as sales orders, production records, or purchase invoices to obtain current inventory. They will also verify clerical computations against physical count of stock and adjust errors or investigate discrepancies. The role includes compiling information on receipt or disbursement of material, equipment, merchandise, or supplies, and computing inventory balance, price, and cost. Preparing reports such as inventory balance, price lists, and shortages, as well as lists of depleted items and recommendations for surveying defective or unusable items, are key responsibilities. The specialist will perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs and maintain regular and reliable attendance.
