About The Position

The Inventory Control Clerk's purpose is to receive and check-in merchandise, ensure that merchandise received matches the invoice, and return damaged product for credit. This role is responsible for preparing the backroom for merchandise receipt, counting and inspecting merchandise against invoices, and maintaining a clean and organized receiving area. The position also involves checking code dating on case items, preparing lists of out-of-stocks for DSD vendors, and contacting DSD vendors regarding any issues with their items. Safety is a key aspect, requiring the removal of hazards from the backroom floor. The clerk must understand the operation and safety requirements of equipment such as the baler, case cutter, pallet jack, and forklift, and must be at least 18 years old to operate these. Miscellaneous tasks, substituting for absent workers, and performing additional duties to support customer service are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Basic mathematical ability (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
  • Able to give/receive complex verbal instructions/descriptions to/from supervisors/co-workers/vendors concerning store policy/procedures and use of equipment.
  • A stable work and educational history.
  • The ability to read and write English.
  • Able to read instructions, labels, numbers, printed paper and forms.
  • Make judgments concerning vendor interaction.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be 18 years or older to operate the pallet jack, forklift and baler.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in a related type of job.
  • Prior experience operating a baler, case-cutter, pallet jack and forklift.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the backroom for receipt of merchandise.
  • Count and inspect merchandise and match to invoice.
  • Prepare a cleaning list each Monday for DSD vendors.
  • Check the code dating on all case items in each cooler/freezer in the store.
  • Prepare a list of out of stocks for DSD daily.
  • Contact DSD vendors with problems on all DSD items.
  • Keep receiving area secure and damage-reclaim area neat and organized.
  • Assure the safety of self, customers and co-workers by picking up and removing all broken containers, packing materials/boxes from the backroom floor.
  • Understand the operation, safety requirements and restraints of baler, case cutter, pallet jack and forklift (must be 18 years or older to operate the pallet jack, forklift and baler).
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks assigned by supervisors and managers, substituting for absent workers and performing any additional tasks necessary to provide products and services to customers.
