About The Position

The Invasive Cardiac Technologist - Electrophysiology operates monitoring, recording, and related equipment during procedures. They collect and prepare data for physicians and staff, and manage reusable items for sterilization. This role involves monitoring patient electrocardiograms for cardiac dysrhythmias, operating defibrillators, and performing CPR when necessary, providing assistance in emergency situations. The technologist also supports pre and post-procedure activities related to equipment and patient care, performs initial troubleshooting, calibration, cleaning, and quality assurance on equipment. They identify cardiovascular and peripheral vascular anatomy, obtain and document clinical data, and prepare and operate imaging, angiographic, interventional, and storage systems. Additionally, they position patients and select exposure factors for radiographic procedures, support physicians and staff during procedures, and scrub to assist with diagnostic, interventional, and surgical procedures. The role includes performing bloom operations (overdrive pacing) and requires the ability to provide age-appropriate patient care, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Cardiovascular Technology or related field.
  • 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
  • Completion of an approved basic ECG interpretation course within three months of hire.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly change priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills to work effectively with physicians, patients and other staff members.
  • Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Operates all monitoring, recording and related equipment used during procedures.
  • Collects and prepares pertinent data for use by physician/staff.
  • Prepares, delivers, and picks up reusable items for re-sterilization.
  • Monitors patient electrocardiogram for cardiac dysrhythmias.
  • Operates the defibrillator and performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation when required.
  • Provides assistance in emergency situations.
  • Assists in pre and post procedure activities related to equipment and patient care.
  • Performs initial troubleshooting on equipment.
  • Performs calibration, cleaning and quality assurance measures on equipment.
  • Identifies cardiovascular and peripheral vascular anatomy for documentation purposes.
  • Obtains and documents clinical data during procedures in procedure log.
  • Prepares and operates imaging, angiographic, interventional and storage systems.
  • Positions patient and selects exposure factors for all radiographic procedures performed in the department.
  • Supports physician and staff during procedures.
  • Scrubs to assist physician with diagnostic, interventional and surgical procedures with knowledge of equipment and equipment options.
  • Performs bloom operation (i.e., overdrive pacing).
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
