About The Position

The purpose of this position is to develop the skills and abilities necessary to provide neurophysiological monitoring during surgical procedures. This job is a short-term training role. It is expected that employees will complete Intermountain's basic clinical competencies and obtain a CNIM within 18 months of hire/transfer into this job.

Requirements

Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers.
Knowledge of computer software (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Nice To Haves

Bachelors or Master's degree in Neuroscience or a related life science field.
Experience with medical terminology or anatomy.
Experience in a patient care setting.

Responsibilities

Communicate with surgical staff to establish correct site, type of surgery and placement of equipment in room.
Recognize all observed changes in patient based on monitoring and communicates with supervising intraoperative neurophysiologist and surgical staff during surgery.
Ensure patient safety relative to history and contraindications for specific stimulation or monitoring techniques.
Communicate necessary information to the surgeon and anesthesiologist and, if applicable, the monitoring physician/intraoperative neurophysiologist, to optimize patient outcome.
Remove electrodes and cleans up patients post monitoring.
Develop skills in somatosensory evoked responses, motor evoked responses, EMG and other monitoring procedures.
Manage hospital and patient resources effectively and efficiently to ensure optimal patient outcomes and to maintain financial stability of the department.
Document in an accurate, legible, complete and timely manner to ensure conformance with current regulatory standards.
