About The Position

PHMC serves as both a direct service provider to individuals, families, and communities across the region and as an intermediary agent — managing large-scale contracts, government and philanthropic partnerships, and multidisciplinary initiatives that require operational sophistication, strategic leadership, and deep mission alignment. Program Overview: The Philadelphia National HIV Behavioral Surveillance System conducts behavioral surveillance among persons at increased risk for HIV infection. The research study this year will be among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men, known as the MSM cycle. JOB DESCRIPTION: The Division of HIV Health (formerly known as The AIDS Activities Coordinating Office) is recruiting temporary part-time Study Interviewers/HIV Testing Counselors for the Philadelphia National HIV Behavioral Surveillance System. Interviewers/HIV Testing Counselors will administer the survey and conduct blood-based HIV testing. All study activities will take place in the field. Interviewers/HIV Testing Counselors will work approximately 2-4 days per week. Employment is expected from June to November 2026, but may end sooner depending on the pace of study recruitment. Interviewers/HIV Testing Counselors are also expected to attend a week-long training prior to data collection. Interviewers/HIV Testing Counselors will report to the NHBS Project Coordinator/Field Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Experience in engaging effectively with MSM communities, preferably in Philadelphia.
  • Ability to adhere to detailed survey research protocols.
  • Ability to comply with strict protocols for confidentiality.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong oral communication skills.
  • Ability to learn and use computerized interview programs.
  • HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in Spanish is an advantage, but not required.
  • HIV testing and counseling experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Screen potential participants for eligibility and obtain informed consent.
  • Conduct in-depth, standardized surveys with study participants.
  • Collect specimens for rapid blood-based HIV testing via finger stick.
  • Provide HIV counseling.
  • Maintain data integrity (i.e., all data collected accurately represents the information provided by a participant).
  • Accurately document participant information for the eligibility screener, consent form, questionnaire, and Participant Tracking Form.
  • Prepare and maintain interview and testing materials and supplies.
  • Assist with ongoing formative research as necessary.
  • Participate in required trainings.
  • Assist with other related duties as assigned.
