About The Position

All Hinds Community College employees must commit to the Caring Campus approach to student engagement and daily apply these general behavioral objectives: listen to student questions and concerns with a positive attitude and make meaningful connections with students. The Interventionist serves participants in the after-school/Saturday Academy tutorial program (via face to face, virtual, and/or hybrid). They develop and implement individualized academic intervention plans for students requiring additional support, provide one-on-one and small-group academic interventions, and assist students with challenging coursework, study strategies, organization, time management, note taking, test preparation, and homework completion. The role provides targeted support in mathematics, English/language arts, science, social studies, and other academic areas as appropriate, adjusting intervention strategies based on student performance and documented progress. The Interventionist refers students to additional academic resources when needs exceed the scope of the position, ensures tutoring activities are documented appropriately, tracks student grades and intervention outcomes, and communicates significant academic concerns to the Project Director in a timely manner. Recommendations are made for continued, modified, or discontinued intervention services based on the student's progress. The Interventionist also assists with educational field trips, college tours, and other program activities when appropriate and serves as an academic resource for Achievers throughout the program year. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required and state of Mississippi teaching certification in Math, Science, English, College & Career Readiness, and/or US History.
Experience working with high school students, particularly students from educationally or economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Experience providing tutoring, academic intervention, advising, mentoring, or student support services.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to analyze academic data and identify student needs.
Ability to maintain confidential records.

Responsibilities

Maintain knowledge of legislation, and best practices.
Serve participants in the after-school/ Saturday Academy tutorial program (via face to face, virtual, and/or hybrid).
