About The Position

Educators for Quality Alternatives (EQA) serves students who have dropped out of or been expelled from school or who have struggled academically or behaviorally in traditional settings. EQA has three high school campuses: The NET: Central City, The NET: Gentilly, and NET: East / NOAH. Students at these high schools earn a high school diploma and participate in internships and career training in fields such as construction, medical, and digital media. EQA also serves middle school students through The Bridge Middle School, a therapeutic program for students during their expulsion term. The overarching goal for all settings is to equip students with the necessary skills, confidence, and experience to succeed in their chosen career and education paths. Over 80% of students at EQA schools enter reading and math below grade level, making literacy improvement a critical mission. While all teachers contribute to this goal, the Academic Interventionist plays a leading role in this endeavor.

Requirements

BA or BS required
Demonstrated record of effectively improving adolescent literacy and skills
Knowledge of and experience with a variety of literacy and math curricula
Experience with and commitment to working restoratively with students with emotional and behavior struggles
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Flexible, open to change, quick-learning, self-directed, and able to manage in a highly dynamic and fast paced environment
Learning mindset dedicated to effectively and innovatively problem solving and constantly improving
Comfortable with excel, databases and online communication
Passion for improving educational opportunities for urban students and for being a part of a strong, mission-driven teams
Commitment to EQA’s mission, vision and growth

Responsibilities

Building genuine and transformational relationships with every student
Designing and selecting effect, research-based curricula which support adolescent literacy and math development
Teaching Tier 2, Tier 3, and/or Special Education Interventions in both reading and math
Organizing and maintaining 504 plans
Providing small group pull outs, individual tutoring, test prep, Act 833 portfolio development etc.
Collaborating with team to insure all students receive the appropriate supports, accommodations, and modifications
Insure all students complete initial and progress monitoring literacy and math testing
Constantly developing your craft
