About The Position

The Interventionist/Special Education Case Manager works closely with teachers, related service providers, correctional staff, counselors, and school leadership to ensure students receive appropriate special education services aligned with their IEPs, transition goals, and post-secondary plans. This role requires a professional who can effectively balance instructional support, compliance responsibilities, relationship-building, and collaboration within a secure setting. This position requires a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and solutions-oriented educator who understands the unique needs of incarcerated young adults with disabilities, including students with learning disabilities, emotional disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and other educational needs. The successful candidate must be highly organized, adaptable, and skilled in developing meaningful relationships while maintaining high expectations and compliance with special education regulations and facility procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or subject field (required)
  • Must have or be eligible for certification by OSSE in the appropriate content area (must obtain within 1 year of employment)

Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted academic interventions in individual, small-group, and classroom settings.
  • Support credit recovery, graduation planning, and transition readiness.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff to implement accommodations, modifications, and differentiated instructional strategies.
  • Monitor student progress toward IEP goals and maintain accurate progress data.
  • Support reentry planning and post-secondary transition goals.
  • Assist students in developing executive functioning, self-regulation, and self-advocacy skills.
  • Maintain a positive, structured learning environment for all scholars.
  • Use restorative practices to support the academic and behavioral growth of scholars.
  • Serve as case manager for students with IEPs.
  • Develop, review, and update IEPs in compliance with IDEA.
  • Conduct IEP meetings, reevaluations, and manifestation determinations.
  • Monitor and document student progress.
  • Ensure compliance with all timelines and documentation requirements.
  • Work closely with colleagues, leadership, and correctional staff to ensure delivery of a well-rounded educational program.
  • Participate in team meetings to discuss scholar progress, share strategies, and address academic and/or behavioral concerns.
  • Communicate regularly with staff about scholar needs and achievements.
  • Ensure high-quality instructional materials comply with organization, facility, district, and federal education regulations.
  • Prepare reports (lesson plans, assessments, progress reports, gradebook, etc.) on time and in accordance with organizational guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that maintain a safe and effective teaching and learning environment.
