Interventional Vascular Technologists are specialized Interventional Radiologists that support the most cutting-edge therapies offered at Cleveland Clinic. In this role, you will assist physicians with minimally invasive, image-guided vascular procedures, including angioplasty, stenting and thrombolysis. You will use fluoroscopic equipment to capture images of blood vessels. By doing so, you will be able to intervene on a patient's potential heart blockages that could cause a heart attack, leading to saving their lives. Taking on this opportunity will not only allow you to advance your skills but can also lead to cross-training in Electrophysiology and additional educational training. A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. with on-call requirements, weekend and holiday rotation requirements.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology
  • Registered Technologist credentialed by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists R.T.(R) (ARRT) and in good standing
  • Current state licensure as a Radiology Technologist
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR the American Red Cross
  • Knowledge of radiologic physics and computerized vascular equipment to safely inject and image human vascular anatomy
  • Knowledge of vascular anatomy and pathology sufficient to apply to interventional and diagnostic exams

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience as a Radiologic Technologist
  • Certification in Cardiovascular-Interventional Radiography R.T.(R)(CV)(ARRT) or Vascular-Interventional Radiology R.T.(R)(VI)(ARRT)
  • Experience in high volume angiography department

Responsibilities

  • Utilize sterile or aseptic techniques to scrub in and perform vascular, interventional and surgical procedures per protocol.
  • Educate patients regarding procedures, equipment and exams to ensure understanding and cooperation.
  • Ensure patients safety and comfort during and after exams.
  • Demonstrate understanding of primary purpose of drugs used in IR, indications, contraindications, contrast drug interactions and major effects.
  • Sets-up or operate injector to administer contrast agents for procedures and manually inject contrast agent if no pressure injector is utilized.
  • Operate ancillary equipment adherent to specific procedures.
  • Check and prepare patients prior to Vascular-Interventional study.
  • Screen patients for ability to undergo procedure by understanding baseline lab requirements.
  • Position patients to obtain radiographic exposure.
  • Acquire, archive, transmit and print images via PACS.
  • Complete after-hours transmission of images and appropriate paperwork.
  • Report malfunctions to help desk and PACS Administrator.
  • Process billing via RIS.
  • Record and maintain procedural data to include injection data, elapsed fluoroscopic time and procedural information.
  • Monitor equipment, systems, clean equipment, and effects timely repair.
  • Learn new technical information and skills through attendance of periodic in-service programs and participation in professional affiliation sessions.
