Requirements

  • Graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology
  • Registered Technologist credentialed by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists [R.T.(R) (ARRT)] in good standing
  • Current state licensure as a Radiology Technologist
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Knowledge of radiologic physics and computerized vascular equipment to safely inject and image human vascular anatomy
  • Knowledge of vascular anatomy and pathology sufficient to apply to interventional and diagnostic exams

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience as a Radiologic Technologist
  • Certification in Cardiovascular-Interventional Radiography [R.T.(R)(CV)(ARRT)] or Vascular-Interventional Radiology [R.T.(R)(VI)(ARRT)]
  • Experience in a high-volume Angiography Department
  • Previous Interventional Radiology experience

Responsibilities

  • Utilize sterile or aseptic technique to scrub in and perform vascular, interventional and surgical procedures per protocol.
  • Establish effective working relationships and utilize a team approach to process improvement.
  • Educate patients regarding procedures, equipment and exams to ensure understanding and cooperation.
  • Check and prepare patients prior to Vascular-Interventional study and ensure patients safety and comfort during and after exams.
  • Set-up or operate injectors to administer contrast agents for procedures.
  • Apply EKG leads and pulse oximetry monitoring.
  • Administer oxygen and IV fluids and initiate oxygen therapy.
  • Use and prepare wires, catheters, balloons and other devices.
  • Manually inject contrast agent if no pressure injector is utilized.
  • Operate ancillary equipment adherent to specific procedures.
  • Screen patients for ability to undergo procedure by understanding baseline lab requirements.
  • Demonstrate understanding of primary purpose of drugs used in IR, indications, contraindications, contrast drug interactions and major effects.
  • Position patient to obtain radiographic exposure, adjust exposure factors and process images.
  • Adapt imaging and therapeutic procedures with professional judgment to improve diagnostic quality and therapeutic outcome.
  • Acquire, archive, transmit and print images via PACS and complete after-hours transmission of images and appropriate paperwork.
  • Immediately report malfunctions to help desk and PACS Administrator.
  • Processes billing via RIS.
  • Record and maintain procedural data to include injection data, elapsed fluoroscopic time and procedural information.
  • Monitor equipment, systems, cleans equipment and effect timely repair.
  • Teach and instruct students and new hires.
  • Learn new technical information and skills through attendance of periodic in-service programs and participation in professional affiliation sessions.
