About The Position

Interventional Technologists independently perform or assist the licensed practitioner in the completion of cardiac, neuro, body, and/or vascular-interventional procedures. They prepare, administer, and document activities related to medications and radiation exposure in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, or lawful institutional policy. Interventional Technologists are responsible for the administration of ionizing radiation for diagnostic, therapeutic or research purposes. They perform radiographic, fluoroscopic, and other procedures and acquire and analyze data needed for diagnosis at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed practitioner.

Requirements

Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT-R) and advanced certification in ARRT-VI, ARRT-CI, or ARRT-CV is required.
Graduate from an accredited cardiovascular technology specialty training program or Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) and advanced certification of Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS).
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months of date of hire.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (Geisinger Medical Center campus only) within 6 months of date of hire.
Graduate from Specialty Training Program-Radiologic Technology (Required)
Basic Life Support Certification - Default Issuing Body
Certified Radiology Technologist - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

Responsibilities

Performing Interventional, Neuro and Endovascular procedures to include technical, procedural and equipment performance, patient care and education, interfacing with other clinical departments, issue resolution, digital imaging quality and efficiency.
Maintaining department relationships with Radiology Services partners, patients and referring physicians.
Ensuring imaging procedure quality in thoracic, visceral, gastrointestinal, neurologic and peripheral intervention for vascular and nonvascular systems.
Participating in regulatory requirements of assigned sections.
Providing invasive procedure assistance and digital imaging while performing duties such as embolization, tumor embolization, chemotherapy embolization, tumor treatment with radioactive elements, Intracranial stenting, intravascular stenting, limb preservation, and Endovascular repair of Aortic aneurysms.
Assisting the Interventionalist while performing procedures, diagnostic studies, and treatments.
Operating and monitoring equipment, as required; hands instruments in proper order to physician; assists with suctioning and positioning patients, as required; provides emotional support to patients, as necessary.
Preparing and positioning patients, administering contrast media as directed by physicians, providing immobilization devices and radiation protection to patients and personnel in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
Explaining procedures and answering appropriate patient questions.
Reporting to the Registered Nurse reactions, results of procedures, and any changes observed in the patient's condition.
Documenting pertinent medical information where indicated.
Maintaining current knowledge on all interventional supplies.
Identifying and defining all Neuro, Thoracic, Abdominal and Peripheral Vasculature.
Operating digital imaging equipment and entering all pertinent data to IDX, Imaging Suite and Picture Archiving Communication System Imaging Management Systems.
Obtaining and reconstructing 3-dimensional images and digital subtraction angiography.
Performing quality control tests of equipment and notifying leadership and appropriate maintenance personnel of irregularities.
Monitoring dose reporting of high levels of radiation due to the length and complexity of the procedures.
Ensuring all equipment and supplies are properly cleaned and sterilized and in working order.
Maintaining patient scheduling grease board for procedures as well as follow up documentation.
Sharing responsibility for ordering interventional supplies and maintaining appropriate levels of on-hand supplies.
Responsible for all Quality Improvement documentation.
Handling non-controlled medications for imaging exams and procedure tray set up.
Satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
