Serves as an integral member of the patient care team by performing procedural scrub with knowledge and anticipation to physician needs and concerns to determine any appropriate care as needed. Follows established procedure guidelines while performing a wide variety of interventional radiology procedures. Procure all the equipment for any given procedure. Position the patient and select radiation exposure parameters for optimal images during procedure. Maintain a high degree of accuracy and awareness for radiation exposure safety, basic ECG and vital sign interpretation. Demonstrates a thorough understanding of normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology, interventional supplies and equipment operation. This position requires the knowledge of interventional radiology equipment utilizing critical thinking skills during procedures and emergency situations per Practice Standards for Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (2000, American Society of Radiologic Technologists). Perform clerical duties as needed by collecting quality data and statistics, duplicating charts/images as needed for consults/transfers. Interact with PACS specialist along with grasp of the system to ensure accurate image archival. This position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and service appropriate to the age of the patients served in their area.
