What You'll Be Doing Assists physicians with interventional procedures and provides technical knowledge to produce diagnostic imaging. Assists in observing patients during procedure and reports abnormal activity. The Interventional Radiology Technologist works closely with the interventional radiologist to perform vascular imaging and interventional radiology procedures. Responsibilities include scrubbing-in for the surgical portion of the procedure, circulating within the procedure room to organize and perform the non-sterile portions of the procedure, and operating the radiographic, fluoroscopic and Cat scan equipment to produce the images for the procedure. The Interventional Radiology Technologist also maintains skills in radiography and/or other imaging specialties to provide cross-coverage and supplemental staffing as required

Requirements

  • Certification and current registration as a radiographer by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required.
  • General interventional radiology experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
  • Knowledge of radiation physics, radiobiology, and radiation protection.
  • Knowledge of radiologic contrast media and medications routinely used in radiology.
  • Knowledge of radiographic image production and processing.
  • Knowledge of the principles of digital imaging and digital subtraction techniques.
  • Skill in applying the principles of radiation protection and safety.
  • Skill in performing venipuncture and starting IVs.
  • Skill in communicating with patients of all ages to explain procedures and obtain patient cooperation in completing procedures.
  • Skill in operating digital imaging and subtraction equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification and current registration in Interventional Technology (CV) or Vascular-Interventional Technology (VI) and Cat scan (CT) by the ARRT is desire.
