About The Position

This full-time position involves 10-hour day shifts (7:00 am-5:30 pm) with a potential weekend rotation. The role may also support additional nursing needs within the radiology department. The IR RN delivers quality nursing care to patients utilizing Interventional Radiology services, providing care for those undergoing minimally invasive procedures. This includes pre, post, and intra-procedural care for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency room populations. The IR RN utilizes the nursing process as a framework for practice, providing direct nursing care to patients and families, and assisting the Interventional Radiologist and APP during procedures. The nurse works collaboratively with the IR team, including technologists, MAs, Physicians, APPs, operational leadership, and other hospital colleagues regarding procedures and daily workflows. The radiology nurse implements orders related to direct patient care, gathers pertinent data, and ensures patient assessments and plans of care are in place. They provide direct patient care as specified by nursing directives and administer medications as needed, ensuring proper pre-medication history is obtained and documented. Responsibilities also include performing urinary catheterization, patient preparation procedures, applying or changing dressings, and proficient IV placement and VAD access. The role requires familiarity with special hospital equipment like monitors, infusion pumps, pacemakers, and oxygen equipment, and reporting the need for repairs or maintenance. The nurse assures equipment cleanliness, may float throughout the facility to meet hospital needs, and demonstrates the role of a nurse as a teacher, orienting and mentoring new staff. Additional duties include moderate sedation (airway management), supporting anesthesia for GA cases, maintaining patient safety during procedures, and performing pre and post-procedure care for seamless patient experience. Documentation is performed in the EMR (EPIC experience is a plus). The role requires a willingness to embrace change, deliver age-specific care, establish professional relationships, adhere to policies and procedures, and demonstrate regulatory compliance. The nurse incorporates BID-Plymouth Guiding Principles, Mission Statement, and Goals into daily activities and maintains courteous interactions. They provide direct care, make necessary nursing judgments, and are responsible for assessing healthcare needs, formulating care plans, and evaluating their implementation. Decision-making involves integrating theoretical knowledge with practical experience. The nurse coordinates patient care, directs assistive personnel for safe and effective care, and demonstrates awareness of environmental influences on patient health. They identify necessary resources for the care plan, collaborate with other health professionals, and develop trusting relationships with patients and families. Effective communication and patient advocacy are essential. Annual mandatory education, including emergency skills and unit-based competencies, is required. The nurse identifies needs for continued growth and participates in professional development activities, potentially contributing to quality improvement initiatives. Responsibility and accountability for nursing practice and patient safety are expected, and assistance is sought when needed. A weekend and holiday rotation may be required.

Requirements

• Experience as an Interventional Radiology, procedural, Emergency Room, and or ICU/CCU Nurse
• Graduate of accredited school of nursing
• Current RN Massachusetts License.
• Current AHA BLS, ACLS

Nice To Haves

• Experience as a radiology nurse in a similar setting is preferred
• PALS Preferred

Responsibilities

• Delivers a continued level of quality nursing care to patients who will utilize the services of Interventional Radiology, providing care of patients undergoing minimally invasive procedures
• Provides pre, post and intra procedural care for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency room populations

• Works collaboratively with respect to the implementation of orders as they are related to direct patient care
• Gathers pertinent objective and subjective data using all available resources
• Assures, as appropriate, that a patient assessment and plan of care is in place
• Provides direct patient care as specified by nursing directives or indications of treatments specified for maintaining continual patient care
• Informs and prepares patients for special procedure exams or other exams as specified in department policies or procedures
• Reports directly to the Nursing Department and to the Director of Radiology and Cardiology in respect to operational workflows
• Assists, monitors, and cares for patient emergencies
• Administers medications as determined necessary by the Interventional Radiologist, APP, assuring that proper pre-medication history has been obtained, documented
• Performs urinary catheterization when necessary
• Performs patient preparation procedures
• Applies or changes dressings or special appliances required
• Proficient in IV placement and VAD access (ports, central lines, PICC)
• Maintains the ability and familiarity in the performance of the use of all special hospital equipment such as monitors infusion pumps, pacemakers, oxygen equipment, respirators, etc.
• Reports the need of repairs or preventive maintenance to the director of Radiology and Cardiology
• Assures cleanliness of equipment by following hospital policy
• Float throughout the facility, to meet the needs of the hospital if necessary
• Demonstrates role of nurse as teacher
• Orients and Mentors new staff members

• The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. The pay range for this position is established and governed by the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Employees hired into this position will receive compensation consistent with the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
