About The Position

The Interventional Radiology Procedural RN will be responsible for general patient assessment head-to-toe, including recognizing complications if and when they arise. This role requires understanding and implementing radiation safety measures, when applicable. The RN will explain procedures to patients and family members, address concerns, and communicate effectively with other team members and radiologists regarding patient needs. The position demands the capability to make critical decisions and act in critical situations, with the ability to adjust quickly to new environments and juggle multiple responsibilities between departments. Providing effective patient care by solving problems as they arise is essential. The shift is 0800-1630, with weekend and weeknight call rotation. Top diagnoses/procedures include Sedation for Invasive Procedures such as Port Placements/Removals, Tunneled & Non-Tunneled Line Placements/Removals, CT Biopsies (Liver, Lung, Deep Bone, Bone Marrow, Renal, Lymph Node), Chest Tube Placements, CT Guided Drain Placements, IVC Filter Placements/Removals, Nephrostomy Tubes, and Neurovascular Intervention for Stroke. Non-invasive procedures include Sedation for MRIs, Port Access/Deaccess, and MRI Defibrillator/Cardiac Device Monitoring. Infrequent/special procedures done on the unit include Chemo embolizations and Uterine Artery Embolizations. Common medications used are Versed, Fentanyl, Cefazolin, Levaquin, Lidocaine, and Nitroglycerin Spray. (Rad Nurses do NOT manage Propofol drips or pressors). Common equipment includes Computer, ISTAT, ACT Machine, Penumbra, IV Pump, and Vital Sign Machine. The Nurse Patient Ratio is 1:1 for procedural sedation.
