About The Position

The Interventional Psychiatry RN reports to the Director of Outpatient Behavioral Health and provides routine direct services and care to patients accessing treatment within the Interventional Psychiatry Clinic. The RN performs selected patient care tasks as well as interventional/clinical tasks on behalf of patients. Under the supervision of the Interventional Psychiatry Section Chief, administers treatment and interventions, and delivers pre-treatment and post-procedure care and observation. The RN upholds patient rights and confidentiality, documents observations, clinical information, and results of interventions. The RN works in collaboration with Interventional Psychiatry leadership team, Healthcare Tech team, and administrative partners to provide a full array of treatments and clinical care. The Interventional Psychiatry RN reports indirectly to the Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinical Manager and may be assigned to assist in the Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinic.

Requirements

  • Current RN license recognized by the State of Iowa Board of Nursing.
  • One year working with individuals with chronic mental illness.
  • One year working in a clinical setting.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to verbally and physically de-escalate a patient utilizing BMC trained programs.
  • Ability to successfully complete BLS and ACLS, BMC designated behavior management training, ECT competencies, and TMS administration certification during the orientation period and maintains all certifications throughout employment.
  • Ability to secure and maintain certification for any identified future interventional treatments as required.

  • May be assigned to assist in the Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinic.
  • Sets an example of service excellence in completing duties.
  • Monitors patient safety and examines all clinical areas for opportunity to improve.
  • Demonstrates ability to clinically support patients in an effective and positive manner.
  • Meets all mandatory training and education within defined time frames, including departmental staff meetings.
  • Maintains qualifications to administer and participate in interventional treatments as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely prepare and maintain IV lines, administer medications and/or other interventions.
  • Ensures all daily tasks and activities are completed during work shifts.
  • Demonstrates flexibility to adapt to changes in workload, schedule, department function and procedures.
  • Participates actively in creating a therapeutic and harmonious environment by demonstrating teamwork and cooperative, responsive behaviors.
  • Works collaboratively with the patient and other behavioral health staff to formulate goals for treatment and effectively engages with them in the delivery of treatment/interventions.
  • Demonstrates effective communication methods and skills.
  • Completes all documentation within required standards.
  • Attendance pattern meets BMC standards.
