About The Position

Interventional / Cardiac Cath Lab Coordinator will serve as a primary member of the Radiology / Cardiac Cath Lab Patient Care Team. He/she will maintain a comprehensive understanding of the program. The Coordinator will be responsible for the interventional technologist daily operations of the special procedures and cardiac cath lab departments. He/she is responsible for all diagnostic radiology equipment operation, ordering supplies, securing consignment agreements, technologist daily on -call schedules, training of new staff billing, and coding. The Interventional Coordinator must perform all diagnostic procedures. The Coordinator must be able to operate all technical X-ray equipment in order to produce diagnostic radiographs for the Radiologists’ interpretation. The Coordinator must be able to set up a sterile field and perform all diagnostic and interventional special procedures. The Coordinator will be expected to function closely with the Radiology Lead Technologist and radiology staff in cooperation with the Radiology Director to achieve the goals set forth by the administration and management of MMC. The individual must have a strong knowledge and formal background in the radiologic sciences.

Requirements

  • Professional knowledge of Radiology and practice at a level normally acquired through the completion of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
  • Must be a registered Radiologic Technologist or registry eligible pass the registry within one year of hire.
  • Cannot be on probation from ARRT more than once.
  • On-the-job Special Procedures training.
  • Must have at least one-year experience as an MMC Radiology staff technologist.
  • Must have current ACLS certification or obtain within six months of assignment in department.

Responsibilities

  • Assists physicians with the following procedures and devices: • Left Heart Cath • Right Heart Cath • Angioplasty • Coronary Intervention • IVUS/FFR • Intra Aortic Balloon Pump • Radial Hemostasis Device • Angiojet • Trans venous Temporary Pacemaker • Permanent Pacemaker Insertion and Generator Changes • Closure Devices • Monitoring and recording of ECG and hemodynamic data • Data storage • Management of radiological equipment • Monitoring of radiation safety • Management of blood samples
  • In the absence of supervisors, demonstrates ability to function with a degree of autonomy as to continue routine patient care.
  • Maintains current on all diagnostic x-ray and Special Procedures equipment.
  • Displays ability to perform all diagnostic procedures within the appropriate radiology modalities.
  • Exhibits strong knowledge of departmental function and operation.
  • Explains procedure to patient before starting exam.
  • Prepares and positions patients correctly for specific examinations.
  • Reads orders and the suspected pathology to make sure the correct tests are performed.
  • Accurately produces quality images.
  • Maintains skills in the treatment and care for patients from newborn to geriatrics and understands techniques for different ages.
  • Maintains equipment in a clean and safe manner.
  • Keeps track of supplies in assigned area and orders as needed.
  • Consults with the radiation safety officer regarding radiation safety issues.
  • Demonstrates adherence to radiation safety policies and procedures in daily practice, including use of radiation protection and questioning females of childbearing age about pregnancy.
  • Participates in the orientation of new staff and provides direction.
  • Handles equipment service calls.
  • Stays up-to-date on coding and billing practices and changes.
  • Schedules special procedures efficiently and coordinates with nursing availability.
  • Knowledgeable of and follows each physician’s specific protocols for special procedures.
  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned by radiology manager and radiology lead technologist.
