About The Position

Canadian Hearing Services (CHS) has an opening for an Intervenor role servicing the Kingston/Belleville area. Reporting to the Manager, Deafblind Intervening Services, the Intervenor will act as a communicator and sighted guide for individuals with a combined loss of hearing and sight to provide access to information and facilitate interaction with their environment and surroundings. Additional responsibilities will involve assisting with daily tasks, transporting and accompanying clients to and from assignments and/or appointments, and providing support regarding assistive devices, etc. This is a permanent, full-time unionized position, working Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. This posting is due to department expansion.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Deafblind services or equivalent, e.g. studies in humanities or community (e.g. Social Work, Gerontology), and/or three to five years’ experience working with individuals who are deafblind.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Access to a vehicle.
  • Legally eligible for employment in Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • Formal training in ASL.
  • Bilingualism (French/English).
  • LSQ training.
  • Alternative communication skills such as Two Hand Manual, Braille.
