About The Position

The Department of Nursing at MSU Denver is seeking applicants for an Interprofessional Simulation Operations Specialist (ISOS). The ISOS plays an integral role on the educational side of healthcare. The purpose of this position is to support the Department of Nursing, the College of Health and Human Sciences, and university efforts to collaborate by providing creative, timely, technical, and non-technical support for experiential learning activities. The ISOS position reports to the Senior Interprofessional Simulation Operations Specialist. If you are an EMT, Paramedic, LPN, CNA, PCT, RN, OR Tech, or love robotics, or technology, you have wonderful skills that are very transferable to this role. This role encompasses the infrastructure, people, and processes necessary for implementation of effective and efficient simulation-based experiences (SBE), skills-based, and interprofessional-based experiences. This position requires exceptional organizational, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, as well as the ability to independently prioritize emerging problems and develop time-sensitive solutions. The position also requires interprofessional, interpersonal, and collaboration skills with the ability to communicate professionally and work effectively with diverse stakeholders across nursing and non-nursing departments. A willingness and ability to learn new simulation, recording, and communication platforms will be needed as departmental technology evolves. This position supports all areas of the Interprofessional Simulation and Skills Lab, including simulation rooms and equipment, skills labs, the health assessment lab/classroom, and briefing rooms, for both nursing and non-nursing use across the College of Health and Human Sciences and university partners.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to stand and move throughout the Sim Center for extended periods, including bending, reaching, and pushing/pulling equipment
  • Ability to move equipment, props, beds, etc. with safety and good body mechanics up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work primarily in person, on campus, supporting all areas of the Sim Center

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one year of professional experience in education, simulation, healthcare, information technology, instructional technology, or a closely related field; OR recent completion of a degree or certificate program with coursework or hands-on training in a related technical field (e.g., information technology, instructional technology, biomedical/electronics technology, healthcare simulation)
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification
  • Two or more years of experience working in simulation in an education institution or equivalent setting
  • Experience with moulage
  • Experience with network administration, A/V or multimedia systems, or server/IT support
  • Experience supporting interprofessional or multi-department use of shared lab/simulation space

Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain all areas of the Sim Center, including simulation rooms and equipment, skills labs, the health assessment lab/classroom, and briefing rooms, ensuring each space is ready for both nursing and non-nursing experiential learning activities
  • Clean, organize, and maintain storage areas and rooms across all Sim Center spaces so equipment and supplies are accessible, accounted for, and ready for use
  • Support other departments and programs when they use Sim Center spaces, including scheduling coordination, room setup/breakdown, and orientation to equipment
  • Ensure all simulation, skills lab, and related equipment is maintained, set up, stored, and cleaned for each experiential learning activity.
  • Work independently, be self-motivated, function well in a team environment, and accept feedback
  • Order supplies and maintain par level quantities
  • Pursue healthcare simulation and equipment knowledge; pursue educational understanding of A/V systems, software, networking, and servers
  • Maintain working knowledge of technology, internet, and simulation equipment, including networking, firmware, software, and routine maintenance/troubleshooting of high-fidelity patient simulators and associated equipment (currently Laerdal and Gaumard)
  • Train staff, students, and faculty in the use of skills and simulation equipment
  • Collaborate on and maintain simulators through troubleshooting and maintenance; provide recommendations on equipment, supplies, and materials
  • Maintain network security for the Simulation Network, including storing and creating network passwords and renewing network certifications as needed
  • Maintain stability and functionality of the simulation A/V recording platform and network cameras
  • Maintain stability and functionality of the simulation communication/phone system
  • Ensure functionality of the A/V recording platform's web interface for end users, including management of user accounts, rooms, devices, encoders, and permissions
  • Create documentation for end users covering workstations, phones, and patient monitors
  • Coordinate with contracted providers for maintenance of A/V hardware
  • Create props and moulage for simulators, simulated participants, and simulation environments, including but not limited to catheters/IVs, wounds, and drugs for medication-administration training systems used in scenarios in accordance with best practices
  • Assist with set-up and tear-down of simulation scenarios by prepping rooms per the scenario management system's specifications for each scenario
  • Compile and disseminate student feedback survey data
  • Run manikins during scenarios
  • Keep instructor PCs, the A/V recording server, phone system, server, patient monitors, simulators, and other PCs up to date on software and firmware.
  • Perform repair and maintenance of manikins, moulage equipment, and A/V recording systems in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and maintain simulation equipment including but not limited to simulators, audio systems, patient monitors, instructor PCs, roaming/fixed/PTZ cameras, TVs, pumps, medication-administration training systems, and encoders in collaboration with MSU IT and/or vendors.
  • Compile and organize vendor information and contacts
  • Serve as a standardized patient for simulation scenarios as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Providing personnel with appropriate expertise to support and sustain the SBE program
  • Using a system to manage space, equipment, and personnel resources
  • Using a formal process for effective systems integration
  • Onboarding, mentoring, or training new educators/facilitators/operational staff/standardized participants
  • Assist with creating scheduling templates and copying forward the simulation calendar each semester
