About The Position

Interpretive Rangers connect visitors and students with the natural and cultural resources unique to Canyon County by leading both structured and informal educational programs, events, and experiences. Interpretive Rangers are responsible for educational content carefully designed to meet educational standards unique to each field trip program. These programs are intentionally designed to create engaging experiences, support formal education, and foster stewardship for parks, cultural and natural resources. Additionally, Interpretive Rangers must care for and maintain Park properties, facilities and grounds. This position is outdoors based at Celebration Park, though seasonal programs and special events will dictate some assignments at other locations (such as Lake Lowell Park or in the surrounding communities).

Requirements

Must be able to learn, understand, and present the required educational materials to various audiences
Must successfully complete a background investigation
Valid driver’s license required
High school diploma or GED equivalency required
Clear speech with or without an accommodation, to effectively convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly and/or quickly
Sufficient clarity of hearing with or without reasonable accommodation to enable the employee to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information
Visual acuity, with or without an accommodation, to read instructions, review and organize documents
Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks
Requires sufficient personal mobility, agility, strength, and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, to walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, up to six (6) consecutive hours in a shift
Sufficient personal mobility, agility, strength, and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, to lift up to 25 pounds, operate machinery, work in outdoor conditions, including inclement weather and fluctuating temperatures

Responsibilities

Work closely with groups of children, educators, professional researchers, organizations, and the public; organize and coordinate group field trips, program assignments and program schedules daily
Learn program content about archaeology, history, geology, wildland fires, ecology, wildlife and flora, and place-based education
Work predominantly in an outdoor environment in a variety of weather conditions and seasons
Assist with daily set-up and breakdown of programs and venues
Deliver content materials to the public in a manner maintaining quality and consistency of information
Staff and administer the Visitor Center, and Museum, answer questions, and provide information to the public that improves access and experiences for all visitors
Maintain Park facilities by cleaning restrooms, maintaining clean and organized buildings, daily trash removal, and keeping the grounds clean, safe, accessible, and litter-free, and other related duties
Assess, report, and address safety issues, hazards and risk management concerns
Assist with grounds maintenance including: Planting, transplanting, cultivating and caring for plants and trees, Adhering to irrigation schedules and collecting native seeds and plants, Mowing, trimming, chipping, weed-eating, and rototilling as assigned
Attend staff training related to education, safety, and proper use of tools and equipment as made available which may include CPR/First Aid, water safety, and general workplace safety topics.
Patrol Park areas to monitor activities, enforce and educate visitors on park rules and ordinances, and document and report violations appropriately.
Assist with administrative tasks as assigned
