About The Position

The Interpreter reports to the Coordinator, Interpreter Services. Under indirect supervision, the Interpreter facilitates a communication bridge for the Spanish speaking patient population and the health care provider and support staff. This position provides language interpreting services for any patient care issue (serving all patients)) at the Medical University Hospital Authority. The Interpreter provides oral interpreting written translation from the Spanish language to English and vice versa. The Interpreter effectively identifies cultural differences and assists employees in understanding cultural differences and how language barriers may impact patient care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Excellent written and oral English and Spanish and/or Portuguese language skills required.
  • The ability to provide written translation from the Spanish or Portuguese language to English and vice versa required.
  • Ability to perform job functions while standing (Continuous).

  • Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements (Continuous).
  • Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations (Continuous).
  • Ability to work in a latex safe environment (Continuous).
  • Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions (Selected Positions) (Continuous).

  • Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required (Selected Positions) (Continuous).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Other language proficiencies preferred.
  • Experience as a medical interpreter preferred.

Responsibilities
