About The Position

Prisma International, Inc. (Prisma) is a dynamic and growing language services provider committed to delivering exceptional Interpretation solutions to clients worldwide. Prisma is hiring experienced MEDICAL INTERPRETERS to join their team as independent contractors. In this role, you will provide Over-the-Phone (on-demand & pre-scheduled) and Video Remote (pre-scheduled) interpreting services to various Prisma clients, including the South Dakota DHS/LTSS offices. This is a 100% remote position. The following languages are in demand: SPANISH plus Amharic, Chinese (Mandarin), Dakota, German, Karen, Lakota, Nakota, Nepali, Serbian, Somali, Tagalog and Vietnamese. Requirements

  • Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI) designation from NBCMI - OR - equivalent credentials from other qualifying organizations (e.g. State Dept. of Health).
  • Agree to a criminal history background check.
  • Agree to complete training/courses in data security protocols and protection of personal information.
  • At least two (2) years of experience providing OPI and VRI interpretation in a professional setting.
  • Two (2) references who can confirm your profession as a medical interpreter.
  • Minimum age: 18+ years or older.
  • Minimum education: High School Diploma.
  • Location: Must live in the United States.
  • Full fluency in English and your native language.
  • Ability to provide OPI and VRI service between a state government representative and non-English speakers.
  • Ability to provide polite forms of expression, enunciation, and a high-level of customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Over-the-Phone (on-demand & pre-scheduled) and Video Remote (pre-scheduled) interpreting services.
  • Deliver correct concepts and meanings between speaker and the Limited English Proficient (LEP) speaker.
  • Ensure correct grammar, clarity and tones between English and your native language.
  • Follow speakers’ direction, professionally interject when clarification is needed, and manage the flow of a conversation.
  • Refrain from side conversations with the LEP speaker or entering into any disagreement with the customer or LEP speaker.
  • Strict adherence to data security protocols and protection of personal information.
  • Compliance with applicable ethics and standards.
