Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED Equivalent
- Proof of passing/completion certificate of an ASL Interpretation course
- Possess a good memory since an interpreter will need to remember what has been said in order to accurately translate
- Assumes responsibility for ongoing continuing education and professional development
Nice To Haves
- Educational Interpreter certification - this can be obtained through us!
- National certification by RID certification is preferred
Responsibilities
- Interpret spoken English into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa
- Provide interpretation services in professional settings such as educational, medical, clinical, or office environments
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards
- Research subject matter in advance when technical or specialized terminology is involved
- Demonstrate strong listening skills, memory retention, and clear expressive signing
- Collaborate with staff and clients to ensure effective communication access
