About The Position

This internship focuses on designing and building unique scientific instruments for NASA spacecraft, enabling groundbreaking scientific discovery, and contributing to space-based defense systems. The intern will join a multidisciplinary team of systems, optical, mechanical, structural, and thermal engineers, working alongside electronics, FPGA, and software experts. Together, they design, build, test, and deliver science instruments for various NASA missions, including recent ones like Parker Solar Probe, DART, Europa Clipper, and Dragonfly.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master’s, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated success while working within a team environment.
  • Strong technical experience as demonstrated in at least one internship, research experience, or project outside of the classroom.
  • Experience working with CAD software
  • U.S. Citizenship is required to access APL’s facilities and networks.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with CREO and Windchill
  • Experience working on hardware design and development.

Responsibilities
