About The Position

The I.A.C. Navigator provides direct, participant-facing case management for students in the College's earn-and-learn (DOL and WIOA designation for apprenticeship) programs (e.g. sponsored, pre-apprenticeship, registered, or unregistered), ensuring participants have the coordination and support needed to complete their program, regardless of which specific program they are in. This is a case-management and coordination role. It does not include employer relationship ownership or supervisory authority, each of which sits with the Assistant Director of Apprenticeship. Program strategy sits with the Director/Senior Director, with the Assistant Director contributing; the Navigator does not own or contribute to strategy setting. Compliance assurance and budget/grant management sit specifically with the Director/Senior Director, per the Senior Director, Internships, Apprenticeships & Careers job description.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with case management, student support, or career/workforce navigation.
  • Ability to learn and use the College's student information and case-tracking systems (currently TargetX, Colleague, Self Service, Canvas).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for maintaining accurate case records.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse apprentice population and a range of internal college offices.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's preferred in Counseling, Social Work, Human Services, or a closely related field.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular check-ins with assigned apprentices and document contact in the system of record (currently TargetX, Colleague or Self-Service) at the time of contact, not reconstructed afterward. Undocumented contact is not counted as a completed check-in.
  • Identify and help resolve barriers to completion (transportation, childcare, academic difficulty, financial hardship) by referring through facilitation of apprentices to existing college resources (Single Stop, Tutoring, Financial Aid).
  • Coordinate apprentices through the Start Now and registration process; flag scheduling conflicts to the Assistant Director.
  • Assist apprentices with onboarding paperwork, including flagging when a FERPA release has not been completed.
  • Understanding BHCC terminology and tools Fresh Start, S.A.P and Early Intervention tools in order to facilitate support to the correct area for appropriate student direction.
  • Add Registrar-issued cohort codes (e.g., MGB26AP) to the student's TargetX file once received from the Assistant Director, so cohort grouping is identifiable.
  • May communicate with the employer for reporting and check-in purposes when directed by the Assistant Director (e.g., relaying apprentice status updates). This is not a standing duty performed at the Navigator's own discretion, and the focus remains on the apprentice, not the employer partner relationship. Does not initiate or negotiate employer relationships.
  • Collect and relay employer-reported OJT hours or progress updates to the Assistant Director; flag discrepancies.
  • Provide case-level input (cohort progress, barriers, upcoming milestones) to support the Assistant Director's recurring employer partner meetings and status reports. Does not lead these meetings or produce the final reports independently.
  • Attend outreach, orientation, or onboarding events where assigned apprentices are present (employer-hosted open sessions, apprenticeship open houses, new student convocation, and similar); may deliver an introductory or orientation session directly to apprentices, virtually or in person.
  • Screen applicants against posted program criteria and submit a written recommendation. The recommendation is advisory; eligibility and admission decisions are made by administration.
  • Refer prospective apprentices to existing recruitment and informational materials. Does not independently create, approve, or publish marketing content.
  • Maintain accurate, current case records for each assigned apprentice within College and/or Employer shared document using FERPA and College/Department operating procedures.
  • Submit status reports on caseload activity to the Assistant Director weekly. See Documentation and Reporting Standard below for the full recordkeeping requirement.
  • Provide support, as needed, to other initiatives in the Internship, Apprenticeship, and Career Department.
  • Support in the organization of on-campus events (Career Fairs, Networking Events, Luncheons).
  • Contribute to the marketing and communication plan for the Department, including but not limited to creating content for both web and social media.
  • Support student job seekers by reviewing resumes, conducting or coordinating mock interviews
