About The Position

The Internship Coordinator is responsible for managing and leading an internship program for concurrent enrollment students with local business and organizations and working with K12 and CMC partners to create the appropriate curricular and academic pathway to support career interests and Work Based Learning Experience. This position will cultivate relationships with local businesses and organizations to further the connection between the community and CMC. This position will oversee internship program and build community partners within the program.

Requirements

  • Education and experience sufficient for the rigors of the position.
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in Adult Education, Continuing Education, Instructional Leadership, or related academic field and a minimum of 2 years related experience with a combination of educational experience and administrative experience or an associate’s degree with 4 years of related experience; or equivalent education and experience that will provide the necessary knowledge, skill and abilities to perform the functions of the position.
  • Strong ability to interact with a variety of businesses and industries.
  • Ability to move between different job functions frequently.
  • An ability to work effectively with HS students and K12 partners.
  • Very strong written and speaking communications skills and ability to understand the needs of others.
  • Current experience with technology in the workplace, such as Microsoft Office Suite, with fluency in Word and Excel.
  • Experience with Adobe essential; skilled in internet searches and other functions, website postings and intranet updates.
  • Adaptable to changes in use of technology in response to workplace needs.
  • Knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, and equipment; ability to speak, read, write, and understand English; follow written and oral instructions; perform mathematical calculations and alpha/numeric filing; maintain orderly and accurate files and records; maintain ongoing awareness of department policies, procedures, and activities; interpret policies and procedures to others; maintain confidentiality; learn to operate computer equipment used in assigned office; perform effectively in an environment with frequent interruptions; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relations; work independently while recognizing situations which need the supervisor’s attention; coordinate activities; organize and oversee the work of others; learn to operate computer equipment used in assigned office; Position requires knowledge and use of computer and software such as Word, Outlook, Excel.
  • Successful completion of a background check including motor vehicles records report will be required.
  • Incumbents in this position will adhere to all safety and compliance policies of Colorado Mountain College while performing all duties assigned.
  • Altered work schedule including evenings and weekends and travel within CMC service area may be required at times, based on position responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with Work Based Learning in a community college or K12 setting preferred.
  • Experience with off-campus site coordination, administrative processes of timesheets, contracts, and hiring paperwork preferred.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: program development, business management, and experience in building community relationships.
  • Experience with administration of budgets and financial responsibilities is desirable.
  • Prior experience in an educational setting is desirable.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) or conversational language abilities preferred.
  • Elevate experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain all internship programs at CMC Leadville’s HS Partner—Lake County HS.
  • With the CMC Student Affairs Team, implement robust case management and holistic advising for HS students concerning their career paths and connected Work Based Learning Experiences in High School and into College at CMC or another appropriate institution.
  • Participate and weekly meetings with the Lake County HS Post Secondary Team.
  • Together with Concurrent Enrollment Coordinator, staff an office at Lake County HS to provide predictable and continues students support with concurrent enrollment, advising, matriculation, career pathways and internship placement
  • Participate in regular meetings with other WBL and Internship coordinators across CMC to share best practices and learning.
  • Seek out and attend training and learning around Colorado’s workforce ecosystem, pathways and labor markets to provide students the most relevant guidance in career pathways and its connection to their HS internship.
  • Facilitate the internship classes and mentor students enrolled in internship programs, which may include support in determining the internship location and direction, outcomes, and assessment of the success of the internship from the Industry partner’s perspective.
  • Act as liaison with the business community by developing one-on-one relationships as well as actively engaging with the local chamber, EDC, Workforce Development Center and business organizations.
  • Cultivate strong and lasting relationships with business, education, healthcare, government, and non- profit organizations.
  • Attend pertinent community meetings and functions – such as City Council, School Board, County Commissioners, etc. – to explore ways for CMC to participate or speak on behalf of CMC when needed.
  • Be able to continually reinforce the benefits of internships and continuing education to both students and community partners, including social media marketing
  • Teach the 9th Grade Career Exploration Class at Lake County HS
  • Participate as a member of the Student Affairs Team at CMC Leadville and as a key part of the Concurrent Enrollment team in collaboration with CMC and LCHS.
  • Responsible for risk management in classroom and at off-site facilities; may coordinate arrangement of and compliance with off-site facility agreements.
  • Responsible for obtaining necessary permits and permissions for student experiences.
  • Assist in communicating to the community about CMC activities in the community programs, career paths and internship opportunities to work with students
  • Establishing and maintaining partnerships with local businesses and service providers, along with upkeep of facility agreements and vendor registrations.
  • Works with external organizations on behalf of the supervisor.
  • Recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and management of partner organizations to host interns.
  • Coordinating the promotion of internships and registration of students.
  • Maintains accounts/budgets and monitors expenditures.
  • Participates in budget planning and maintains responsibility for management of continuing education budget.
  • Apprises supervisor of issues/discrepancies in budget.
  • Makes recommendation of future budget requests/needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
