About The Position

Our team of experienced and credentialed professionals provides Forensic Engineering; Expert Witness Testimony; Sports Biomechanics & Human Performance; and Research, Development, Testing & Evaluation services. The quality of our work has led to a national reputation as “The ARCCA Advantage – Experience, Service, Expertise and Credibility.” The Mechanical Engineering Intern will support forensic engineers in investigating and analyzing mechanical system failures and accident scenarios. This internship provides hands‑on exposure to real‑world forensic engineering work across a variety of applications, including industrial machinery, consumer products, HVAC equipment, workplace safety, construction equipment, and vehicle accident reconstruction. Interns will work under the guidance of experienced forensic engineers and gain insight into the litigation‑support environment, including evidence evaluation, testing, reporting, and professional communication.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Strong interest in forensic engineering, failure analysis, and accident reconstruction.
  • Ability to work in a professional, detail‑oriented environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable working in both office and field settings.

Nice To Haves

  • Interest in safety‑related topics such as machinery, workplace safety, consumer products, construction equipment, or vehicle systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with investigations involving mechanical and equipment failures.
  • Support senior engineers with data collection, documentation, and analysis.
  • Participate in testing activities and observe evaluation of mechanical components and systems.
  • Assist with preparation of technical reports, summaries, and exhibits.
  • Support research efforts, including review of technical publications and standards.
  • Attend internal meetings and, when appropriate, client or educational presentations.
  • Assist with vehicle, site, and evidence inspections, including use of 3D scanning technology and software under supervision.
  • Support data collection and organization related to vehicle and commercial vehicle collision investigations.
  • Assist with test setup, documentation, and analysis of collected data.
  • Help prepare technical summaries and draft report sections.
  • Observe and learn about expert testimony preparation and litigation support processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.
