About The Position

United Cooperative Services has an open position for an Internet Services Technician in our Cleburne Internet Services Department. Candidate should have a stable, verifiable work history, with an acceptable MVR. A pre-employment drug and alcohol screen is required. This is a career job with progressive pay and an outstanding benefit package. This non-exempt position starts at $33.34 per hour. Positions are open until filled. The Internet Services Technician will install and repair fiber-to-the-premise (FTTx) and voice-over-internet-protocol (VoIP) services. This position represents United every day to our members, entering members’ premises to install and troubleshoot customer-premise equipment (CPE) for IP services offered by United. In addition, the candidate is well-versed in taking an analytical approach, providing data that will be used to inform both internal and external personnel and members on issues that impact member service offerings.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of related experience in the field.
  • 2 years of experience in a customer-facing role, working with 3rd party installation vendors.
  • Willingness to go the extra mile to provide the membership with the expected level of service they are accustomed to receiving.
  • Must be able to operate personal computers and related software.
  • Must be able to use office equipment and telecommunications equipment.
  • Must have a current Texas driver’s license without violations that would prohibit insurability.
  • Experience with installing Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH).
  • The ability to assess different installation scenarios, effectively determine required time, approach, and equipment that will be required, and clearly communicating plans of action with members and internal staff.
  • Lifts and carries loads up to 75lbs (including ladders).
  • Able to work aloft at heights.
  • Must be able to perform all activities listed in the job description with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of FTTH, both aerial and underground is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • As a member of the Internet Services team, the Internet Services Technician is responsible for providing and maintaining a positive member/subscriber experience by ensuring that all member installations are completed in a timely manner and that all workmanship is performed at a high level.
  • Places SC fiber connectors on fiber and RJ45/RJ11 ends on CAT5e.
  • Performs new connects, reconnects, and service troubleshooting; adds outlets; installs and/or removes ONTs, routers, receivers, extenders, PoEs, PtPs; installs fiber and/or CAT5e cabling within structures; performs upgrades and downgrades of service.
  • Develops an understanding and utilizes necessary electronic management platform(s) to active and/or troubleshoot internet and voice services.
  • Reads signal levels through use of field strength reading devices and electronic management platforms.
  • Maintains work vehicle in a clean and organized manner and keeps materials fully stocked.
  • Uses customary telecom hand and power tools in performance of job duties.
  • Works with connectors, fasteners and wire and uses hand tools; keeps tools in proper working order at all times.
  • Ensures the work order and service order process is efficient and represents the highest level of service and value.
  • Performs clean-up of areas impacted during installation.
  • Is open and adaptable to training as provided.
  • Acts as a technical mentor and provides support and thought leadership within the Internet Services team
  • Adheres to United’s safety policies and procedures and offers recommendations to their supervisor to enhance the cooperative’s safety culture.
  • The Internet Services Technician shall be required to perform any other duties assigned to fulfill the objectives of the Cooperative.
  • Courteously answer member inquiries and, if unable to do so, directs them to the appropriate person, making every effort to increase their understanding and acceptance of the Cooperative's plans, policies, and programs.
